As Jasmine Lister sat on the University of Connecticut's bench before Friday's Hall of Fame Women's Challenge, she admitted she was having flashbacks to one of the finer moments of her basketball career.

Last June 26 -- four days after being signed by the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks -- the former Vanderbilt point guard had seven points, three rebounds, and two assists in 31 minutes of an overtime loss to the Connecticut Sun. It was a highlight of her four-week stay with the Sparks, a summer job that was a dream come true.

"It was awesome," Lister said. "Some of the UConn players came to the game and I recognized some of the fans that also come to UConn games. It was cool to see everyone."

When Jaz and her twin sister, Cin, played High School basketball it was always worth the drive to Corona, or wherever the game was. The sisters were like energizer bunnies, they never stopped going and going, and at top speeds.

Speaking about point guards, another one who had a strong showing at the [USA Olympic] camp was UConn graduate assistant Jasmine Lister who not only organized the team of male practice players as she does with the Huskies but had the added benefit of being able to serve as the point guard of the group.

On Monday she was hitting 3-pointers, dishing off assists, getting to loose balls. When Lister, a former Vanderbilt star, was pressed into duty with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks due to a string of injuries during the summer, she played against the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena. I remember writing then that if you had to pick out the current college graduate assistant with no previous WNBA experience with the exception of the 2014 training camp with the Seattle Storm, it would have been impossible to say Lister was that player. I had the same feeling watching the U.S. practices as Lister looked very much like she belonged. As she left the facility on Monday, USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director Jim Tooley made a point of telling Lister how well she played. Her current boss was also impressed.

"She was Bob Cousy, player/coach," UConn and U.S. head coach Geno Auriemma said. "She had those guys exactly where we needed them and they played in a way that we need them to play. Jas coaches them, she ran the offense, she is going to be a heck of a coach down the road."

Maybe, but I don't think the person in that job has plans to leave, plus I think Jasmine is looking for a Asst Coach job or pro player job, there could also be a job working with USA basketball

Got to speak with Jaz a bit after the UConn game at Cincy.
Told her I enjoyed watching her play in the WNBA the past season.
I told her to keep going for it and she said: "Thank you!"

I think one of the articles mentioned she still has a semester project to complete her masters - something specific but unspecified to the tea, so it sounds like she will be around at least for next fall. Whether that involves being an assistant or not or if she can in fact be a 'graduate assistant' was not specified. She will have completed her actual course work by May.

(This is pretty typical of masters degrees that there is an independent research project as the final product, that includes then an 'oral defense' of that project for the degree to be granted.)

I was with a small group of people and she was talking with all of us before the bus left. Didn't have much time and that's the first thing I thought to say to her.
That said, when this girl is standing 3 feet away from you it could be said that trying to think straight is a very hard thing to do. ;)
