Jalen Adams Highlights

Nice. Some upperclassmen don't have game like this. Next year we should see an All American cooking in the oven.

I'm as big a Jalen fan as anyone, but maybe let's slow it down a bit with the All-American predictions.

our previous guards all had the handle and skill to get to the rim and finish... Adams has the handle, skill, and the size to dominate in the lane... give him another slasher and multiple shooters on the outside and he should be a monster this year if he continues to develop

"that was one hell of a recovery..."

Love that comment so much. Jalen made a lot of tough shots all season.

hoping Jalen takes the kind of freshman to sophomore year leap that Terry Rozier did for Louisville a couple of years ago.

idk, didnt like his game

It's going to be real interesting with Jalen this year. I don't know what his 3 point or mid range shooting percentages were but if he worked on his shot this summer he could be a takeover type point guard this year.

Since Ollie likes to look for matchups, be interesting to see with Adams' height and shot if he'll have Adams post up on the block

Outside of Iowa State using DeAndre Kane in the post a few years, nobody posts up their guards in college.

Last 17 games of last season:
9.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 3.1 apg
  • 44% FG
  • 40% (8-20) 3FG
  • 90% (28-31) FT
Jalen's issue wasn't that he's a poor shooter, it's that he took poor shots. Once he learned a little bit more about his game and the college game, he was a very effective PG.

1) If all you needed was height and/or length to be a successful back to the basket player, Brimah would be a lot better offensively.
2) Adams is best attacking 1v1. He can stop and pull up short jumpers, or finish at the rim. Doing that will create more for other offensively.
3) If he were to be in the post playing, the offense would be even more stagnant. The only way to create space for him to post would be to move Brimah and/or whoever is playing the 4. Why move them out of the perimeter where (other than Jackson IF he plays a stretch 4) they are even less likely to contribute offensively?
So no, I don't think he'll post up. I think Ollie would much rather give him the ball at the top of the key, space the floor, and let him create off the dribble.

Just to piggy back on that, a lot of it was freshman jitters and nerves. The game speeds up and as a freshman point guard, it just is too much to take in at first. Even Tyus Jones had a mediocre at best first half of his freshman year at Duke. It just takes time. Those percentages are ridiculous for a freshman pg. Now that he is the presumptive number 1b offensive option (1a Purvis), those avgs could EASILY double

Marcus Smart used to too with Forte on the wing as a nice kick out option.

Doubling is probably optimistic. 18.5 points per game is probably an indicator that he's shooting a bit much. If, in late January, Adams is averaging 14/4/5.5 and shooting 47% or higher from the field, I think he (and we) will be in very good shape.
