i seriously doubt it gives him as much leverage as you think it does. i think his performance coaching this year's team will be the deciding factor.

Parker could give UConn a verbal in Jan., or Feb. wich could cement Ollie's 3-4 year contract.
Obviously, it isn't binding in case Ollie and UConn can't agree on a contract. But, that would really help Kevin, if it actually happened.

It will be more his performance managing a program than W-L's coaching that will be the deciding factor. That’s what the AD meant by wanting to “judge him on both some quantitative but a lot of qualitative aspects of what it means to coach.”
