Interesting happenings since Omar attended the XFL showcase last week in D.C. When he ran the 40 at UConn's Pro Day and even at his Jets workout, he was still suffering the lingering effects of a hamstring pull. But he was fully recovered at the XFL showcase last Friday and ran an eye opening 4.4 40! And it wasn't just the eyes of XFL coaches in attendance that were opened (Hines Ward in particular) but word of that 40 time traveled amazingly fast among the entire football-sphere. The B.C Lions of the CFL took immediate note and just offered him a one year contract. With that contract in hand, Omar's flying to Vancouver tomorrow to begin his CFL journey. Once he learns the playbook he's expected to be inserted into the Lion's lineup. The CFL regular season has already begun and is scheduled to end on October 29th. Should the Lions make it all the to the Grey Cup his season could end as late as November 20. Meanwhile, depending on how he does in B.C, he could also be drafted by the XFL in their upcoming draft on Oct 23rd and play next Spring----or perhaps even get picked up by an NFL team looking to fill a late season injury need. Lots of options potentially await. These circuitous journeys are amazing. At the first XFL showcase in DC there were 90 players trying to make an impression. And there are 5 more showcases scheduled. Lots of players are looking for jobs and it's nice to have fallback alternatives like the XFL, USFL and CFL to consider. But in the end, to make any of these rosters, you have to stand out. That's what a 4.4 40 is--an eye opener, a door opener--and a game changer. Good luck Omar, we're all pulling for you.
