...it was a pretty usual outing but for the number of turnovers, points given up (good on you, DePaul!) and the larger than usual (22 vs an average of 17 for the first 4 games) number of 3s put up by the Huskies.

Not having seen the game, I gotta go with what the stats say.

VT-I totally agree with you-that was an awesome game to watch!! Sure, none of us like being nervous about the outcome, but my goodness, that was intense and satisfying in so many ways. I met Doug Bruno down in Nashville at the FF in 2014 and had a great chat with him. It goes without saying that he is a huge fan of Geno and the UConn program holds many of the same wcbb core values that drive Geno. DePaul has become my favorite side-dish and I can't wait to see what they can do against the other 'top' programs this year-Go Huskies (and Blue Demons):)

What was agonizing to watch? I thought that it was the most exciting game this year. Bruno's version of "hair on fire" basketball.

Having not seen the game, I was going off of the "where's the defense" and "another missed layup" wails for people's comfort with the play.

Thanks for all the work you put into these stats, JR...

Thanks. But all the work was in getting all the formulae correct, and that's in the past. (Unless somebody has suggestions about how to make it better/more useful) Entering the data is pretty straightforward -- until some troublemaker decides to make the player order on the stat sheet (which has been the same for the first 4 games) different. :^(

JR - You've been around a while. You know the Boneyard has a few nervous Nellies. For me the game was never in doubt even when DePaul was dropping 3s from the Quad. I thought some of the outside shots should have been scored 4 or even 5 points.
I even got to see Geno rub his head. I don't think I've seen him do that in a couple of years.

Wasn't there a poster named Phil who also did charts like this? My memory is fading.

I agree--it wasn't agony for ME to watch. I enjoyed ever minute. My juices were moving. No ho-hum another pusher game --it had intensity, drama, and one heck of a lot of good basketball played by both teams. Punch (Bruno) Counterpunch (Geno) great coaching and very good players doing their best. Uconn Women played a great game. Uconn was fouled a lot (most not called) , they were pressed all over the floor--and they learned to handle it. Katie Lou, Gabby, Collier, Tuck, and Chong got a very inexpensive education--they shall remember until they graduate. Thank you Doug Bruno.

spot on, very physical and intense game. Gotta say they really let them play. At onr point I saw Geno pulling his hair back after Morgan got double whacked on an up and under!

Depaul would likly beat Utenn, Cardinals, Duke, and tOsu with that energy and effort.

Geno had a number of those --aw crap missed another one--hair messing moments. Doug had his share as well. It was almost a heavy weight boxing match---it was definitely fun for ME to watch. My wife wasn't at all thrilled. She enjoys the 40 50 60 point blow outs. I guess they have their place.

I'm glad it was a double digit win but more proud it wasn't a 40 point blow out. We need a game or 2 like the Depaul game so the next time
a team plays the way Depaul did we won't see a half like the first from a uconn team that got a little rattled

Agree in principle, but we might not see another team play like that in our lifetime. Trapping hard nearly every second is pretty gimmicky.

I doubt if many teams will be making wholesale substitutions the way DePaul did and still maintain good talent on the floor. DePaul may not play another game like that one again this season.

Some team members may have been "rattled" Hectic play being prompted by DePaul isn't "rattled". When attacked by two or more players it is smart to quickly pass the ball to an open team mate. On occasion a bad pass was made because 2 or so teammates were rattled then. Layups were missed often mostly because DePaul was hanging on their arms, with no calls.
In the final quarter DePaul must have been told to foul Uconn rather than allowing a layup---10 fouls????
However, I agree with you this was a necessary training/education game--Uconn had to learn some teams can actually play Basketball (with a bit of hockey thrown in).

Was a fun game to watch. Stats can be a little misleading in this game as to points "allowed". DePaul kids were taking a bunch of shots I think Geno was content with, they were so deep, and made a bunch of them. They also made some pretty well contested 3s.

Some of the DePaul players (he used 10 at least) just threw the ball at the basket and hoped for the best--because they are DePaul their shots went in with "special help from above" !! (Scorekeeper???) Geno likes playing the "odds" few teams hit 40 percent on 3's==then comes Dayton and DePaul and the ODD's go to ---Heck. At leas in the first half..
