Are we not allowed to talk about this? It seems like virtually every player on this year's team has missed some playing time due to an injury. Who hasn't? This is an unknown variable which will affect future success.

Several ankle injuries. Do the players tape up before every game AND practice? Just wondering.

The injuries are concerning, the most concerning to me is that Anna is out "indefinitely" and per Geno as of yesterday not to return soon. Nika injury was revealed post game by Geno but it was noticeable during the game and got progressively worse. With Nika it is also unclear if this is a new injury or the same one from earlier in the season. Evina often takes some time to get warmed up and get going and then sometimes like yesterday she never gets going at all. Paige, Christyn and Aaliyah have all missed games this season due to injury and Aubrey probably should have missed the St. John game.
With regards to players being taped before games and practices, most do. It is my understanding that the training staff gives the player the option of being taped or not taped-until there is an injury at which point taping is no longer optional.

Having experienced a foot stress fracture I can provide a little info. Believe it or not depending on which bone has the fracture and how severe the fracture may be recovering can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. We shall see.

Who do we think has a stress fracture ? Not being a smartie I just have not seen that in print anywhere.

Earlier in the season Nika's injury was described as a stress reaction. What I saw on the UConn blog was an ankle injury. I would guess most likely a new injury.

As far as Anna, she is wearing a leg sprint rather than a walking boot. It seems most people usually postulate a "fracture" straight off. I suggest the leg splint may indicate a calf strain which could take some time to resolve.

Also not being a smartie just putting forward a wag.

Appreciated. Ouch, I'm not sure which would be worse for Anna. Double ouch if Nika's is truly a new injury.
My wag for Evina is worse case a bone bruise or best case an interior meniscus tear.
Best of luck to all the players on these injuries-which suck for everyone.

What happens to Aubrey? She only played 2 mins yesterday.

Are you sure it isn't a SWAG instead of a WAG?

What I would really be concerned about is that all these injuries could be as a result of limited conditioning because of covid. The schedule over the next few weeks is not going to help. I can see why Geno wanted to dump the BE tourney.

Evina?? When was she injured?

Wikipedia: "The SWAG is an educated guess but is not regarded as the best or most accurate estimate. ... A guess of lesser worth may be called the "Wild-Ass Guess" or "WAG". A slightly better estimate may be called "Back of the Envelope" (BOTE)."

Nothing about my post qualifies as "educated"

Evina?? When was she injured?
Upon her arrival from TN first surgery. 2nd surgery January 2020. Cleared for full contact summer of 2020.

Yes, but with your post comments on the type of injuries, I took it to be more scientific, so it would appear to be more in the educated and therefore more then a WAG or a BOTE.

I think there are three things:
1. Starts and stops in practice/games with Covid
2. Limited summer and fall work outs/practice to build conditioning. Especially freshman bodies playing at this level for the first time.
3. They have some depth so they can rest folks. I think in the past players with similar injuries would have played anyway.

This topic makes me appreciate Maya Moore even more. 154 games. 150 wins. 150 games in double figures. 0 games missed.

As many of you who have played the game, know, practices can be much more stressful than games. Maybe, they are practicing too much. or doing too many stressful drills. It seems to me, though, that Geno and the coaches would realize this.
Looking back, at years gone by, there WERE injuries, but not a flux of them. Shea comes to mind.

I am far from being a medical expert, but maybe some of you, who are more aware, can comment on this: could some of these cautionary bandages, tapes, etc. be contributing to MORE injuries?
