Iowa (a top 25 team) beat Northwestern (also top 25) by 13 points last night. Consider then, how Iowa would fare versus UConn. Having seen both teams rather often, I'd say Huskies by 20 and maybe more. So what is the gap between UConn and NW? Forty? Fifty? And we are talking about ranked teams. While I know that such comparisons are typically illegitimate, in this case it just might be fair and spot on. The gap from the top of the polls to the bottom of the top 25 is one large gap. But why?
My guess is that there are many "pretty good" HS players in WBB, but far fewer really oustanding players. On the men's side, even the unranked midmajors have a couple of very good players HS players coming in every year. Other opinions?
