Would have liked to see him suit up this fall, but it's nice to read that he feels he gave it his all and has no regrets. Focused on that degree.

Bummed for him as a football player, but every interview he has ever given makes him sound like a great kid with a level head. I don't have any doubt he'll have many opportunities to do well in life.

I wish him the best in his future. He sounds like a classy kid...

Feel for the kid - there is no quit in him, that's for sure. Qualities like that carry on from football into the real world. Wish him the best.

Feel very badly for the young man. But he has his life in front of him, and I hope he makes it a good one.

Disappointed for DJ, but echo most of the statements here...he's going to be just fine.

Met him a few times. Great young man who has a lot of potential sans football.

Thanks for coming to UConn DJ. Here's wishing you a bright future.

Really tough luck on this kid. Can't be easy to run the gamut from "sure thing prospect headed to elite University" to the end of your football career, but it sounds like, despite everything, he's kept an impressively good attitude. Lesser men would've perhaps sunk into desperate or self-destructive behavior. His reaction indicates a good, adaptive personality that will serve him well in whatever path he chooses. Good luck to the young man.

I follow him on twitter you can send him messages directly through there. @DJSHOES24 He seems like a great kid.
