<<Knappe is the only non-senior and offensive player among the four captains.
UConn’s official site has Knappe’s photo next to a promo for football tickets. Offensive linemen normally aren’t the faces of a football program, but if Knappe were to be the face of UConn, there would be few complaints from any of the players or coaches.
“I am so excited for him,” offensive coordinator Frank Verducci said. “It is almost a storybook (tale) where a kid is an archer is Europe and he comes over here because he falls in love with the game. “It would be like you or I going over and trying to play Junior league hockey over there and you just don’t have any of the nuances. He literally started from scratch. He absolutely looks the part, but it is exciting to see all of those nuances coming together for him and the respect he has earned through his work ethic, his brotherhood as a member of the team. The players love him, they look up to him.”<<
