Wow #8 projected pick in draft is way too high. He's not very athletic and has a low release on his shot. A lot of his shots in high school come from bc he's just bigger and stronger than the other kids but I don't see it translating to NBA. I do think he will be a very good college player.
Yeah, I had a double take on that one too. Not only has the kid not played a single minute of college hoops, he hasn't even started his senior season in high school. Never mind #8, I'm not even sure he'll be draft ready in 2016. He didn't look very athletic, though he is strong, has a plus handle, uses his body very well when driving into traffic and can shoot it from deep. He's got all the tools, just not great hops and speed. Seems to have a nice quick first step or two.
You don't need to be uber-fast end-to-end to make it in the league, you do need to move those puppies relatively quickly for those first few steps to get the edge and drive past defenders and to keep opponents from blowing by you in the half-court. Few teams constantly run up and down the court now-a-days at either the pro or college level. I kinda miss that. Hum...wonder why? I think with the pros a lot has to do with their ridiculous frequent and long schedule. And as for colleges, there are always a few programs try to push the ball most of the game, but to win 6 March games against the field of 68, you're going to need to play solid half-court offense to advance. For that reason the best programs are the ones that can develop solid full and half court offenses. JC learned that in the early to mid-80s. As his team's talent began to increase, he began to better balance his offense. KO clearly knows this as well where he wants them to run and generate some easy scoring opportunities, but also doesn't want to compromise things defensively and wants to make sure his team has a well tuned half-court offense come March.
I just love that guy and say without hesitation that there's no coach out there I'd rather have. I hope he stays at UConn for the long hall. There are a lot of coaches that simple wouldn't take an NBA job regardless to how much their offered. Coach K and Tom Izzo are two that come to mind. Maybe someday they'll make that jump, but I doubt it. I hope KO is cut from that same mold. I guess we'll find out over time.
