Welcome to the UConn WBB Weekly, a recap of everything that happened in the world of UConn women’s basketball over the past week from the team that runs The UConn Blog and Storrs Central.

By Daniel Connolly Jan 14, 2021

"The conference needs to stop pretending like its current format is anything but a failure."
A poster suggested the EXACT same thing 2 days ago...........me! [LINK]

In the span of just over five hours on Tuesday, two of UConn women’s basketball’s upcoming games were postponed because of COVID issues unrelated to the Huskies’ program. First, Villanova paused team activities due to the virus, which knocked out UConn’s game on Saturday, Jan. 16. Later, the Huskies were forced to postpone their meeting against Seton Hall on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution after Providence — their most recent opponent — temporarily shut down.

The Big East has the opportunity to be a leader. It can be the first major conference to not only acknowledge its failures but also take a step in a new direction — whether that be a different format or a change in expectations.

UConn scheduling news

Two of the Huskies’ postponed games now have new dates: UConn will host Seton Hall on Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and then will travel to Xavier to play the Musketeers on Feb. 20 (time TBD).
Both games will air on SNY.

As seen in article below, BE in denial

Reached for comment Wednesday, Big East women’s basketball senior associate commissioner Tracy Ellis-Ward maintained that the conference’s plan is to reschedule and play as many games as possible.
“Every effort is being made to reschedule postponed games, while also respecting the scheduling format agreed upon by our schools, particularly in the matter of density,” Ellis-Ward said. “At this point we are not altering our plan, but we remain open to pivoting should the circumstances demand it.:eek::eek::eek:

Our goal remains for all teams to play the maximum number of Big East games possible within the current time constraints, however recognizing that amount may vary due to the impact of the virus.”
