Last year Neptune declared the BET game against Depaul Nova's "game of the year" and they then needed OT to beat freaking Depaul. He should have been fired then. They might want to get a proven head coach this time around.

Time is likely up for Kyle Neptune at Villanova

No team has plunged at KenPom through the first four days of the season like Villanova. The Wildcats, who were inexplicably ranked 20th at KenPom to start the week, now sit at 59th after their embarrassing 90-80 home loss to Columbia on Wednesday. It's the latest bad loss for Nova under Neptune, joining the likes in previous years against Portland, a bad Temple team, a road defeat to lowly DePaul, plus Penn, Saint Joe's and Drexel. Neptune is merely 36-34 after inheriting a blue blood program that was operating at a top-five level. Now it's losing games to mid-majors with regularity and the fan base is in despair.

The fall-off has been unbelievable. (Making matters more dire: Mark Jackson, the AD who hired Neptune, left for Northwestern.) Nova is in danger of slipping into purgatory, which would be a devastating development after its ascendence in the 2010s. A massive game at a good Saint Joe's team awaits next Tuesday. Neptune can't afford one more loss to a mid-major team. Whether there's an in-season change remains a different deal. Jay Wright endorsed Neptune for the job — and Wright is still around the program — so it's conceivable that he'll keep his post until season's end, but it feels like this experiment is over.

Kyle Neptune deserved to be fired halfway through his first year. Then he ruined the Villanova brand by the end of year 2. For some reason they're keeping him around, and the hole is just getting deeper and deeper

But on the plus side, last season was his best winning percentage of his head coaching career. He went 18-16, .529 before losing in the first round of the NIT

He’s gotta go. But following a legend is so hard.

He has to be gone after this year. If there was improvement each year you could make the argument he should stay. They’ve gotten worse

The Ivy's are tough at the beginning of the season. Usually seasoned teams who play a very good system.

In 2004 Yale almost beat one of our best teams ever in the season opener. We won by 10 points but after the game the Yale coach said the best team lost.

So I'm inclined to cut Neptune a little slack on this one.

What I noticed last year was that confused look on his face. It did remind me a bit of the look on Ollie’s face when we went through the dark days toward the end of his tenure.

Forgone conclusion that he’s done after this year. This will be a really interesting search for Nova who needs to get this next hire right or they risk going into program pergatory.

Nova admin seems massively conservative and parochial, so unlikely to take any major risks on a wild hair personality. Will Wade is a mid major name you hear a lot, but not sure a southern guy like that would fit the NE catholic school culture.

At minimum need to breath some energy into the program post Neptune as the guy has slowly turned them into a big bore. The offense runs on fumes, his pressers are chock full of inauthentic cliches and his players body language looks funeral-like.

Keep wondering where the other Hurley lands long term. ASU ain’t a bad place to be now that in the Big12, but his leash may be short there. He seems such a better fit for the BE.

I think it is good for UConn to have worthy rivals. The Villanova program has had a complete melton since Jay Wright left. Is losing to Columbia the final straw for Neptune?
Kyle Neptune was cooked in the pre conference season last year. They just haven’t taken him off the grill for some reason and now he is char-broiled.

Any comparison to KO is crazy
KO alleged depleted team surprised everyone by winning 20 games and finishing 10-8 in 2013. A suspension year.
KO ‘s teams won a NC in 2014 winning 32 games
They also 20 games in 2015 and injuries prevented another NCAA hearth
They won 26 games in 2016 and the AAC tourney and got two the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament
We also one more AAC tourney games than any other team . In his first 5 years
If Neptune’s first seasons were even close to that would have a contract extension.
