2.
After leading UConn to its fourth NCAA championship in just his second year on the bench, Kevin Ollie is hotter than a ghost pepper right now.

Several NBA teams were linked to Ollie, who ultimately signed a five-year, $15 million extension to remain in Storrs.

Now, after the recent decommits of guards Prince Ali and Will Jackson, Ollie is like an NBA GM armed with cap space and multiple draft picks.

He’s got one commit in point guard Jalen Adams and three scholarships to work with.

Ollie and his staff are targeting some of the same guys Calipari (and everyone else) is, namely Malik Newman, Derrick Jones and Las Vegas wing Ray Smith, as well as Milwaukee center Diamond Stone, New Jersey point guard Isaiah Briscoe andConnecticut post player Steven Enoch.

As the Magic 8-ball says, "Outlook good". But I am going to wait for a few more commits before I go off my nut.

I mean I hope we are "hotter than a ghost pepper" but doesn't it seem contradictory to say we are the hottest team but just lost two recruits? I understand that that means we can go after even better talent but if we are so hot we wouldn't be losing anyone for any reason. Just sayin. Don't kill me.

Your point is understandable with Ali but based on the comments from Jackson himself and his own coach its pretty obvious that their was a mutual parting of the ways there.

The great thing about Kevin Ollie? It doesn't matter how hot he is. This isn't a guy that's only going to challenge for national championships every 5-10 years. He's not some one-hit wonder, either. Dude is gonna coach at a high level for a long time. So whether he's hot or not, he's going to be a threat in March, and that's all that matters.

Jackson going elsewhere is directly related to the idea of Ollie being "hot" on the recruiting trail - he sees the writing on the wall.

But obviously we'll have to wait and see how the class takes shape before we can assess if losing these guys was really a good thing. But in Jackson's case, it just seems like this is a move that both sides are good with.

I was looking forward to this thread veering off course much quicker. I'll check back in a couple hours to hopefully see some more quality challenges for KO's hotness

Not everyone is brave enough to try a ghost pepper.

I know people aren't enamored with the Calipari one & done model but beating out the squid/Kentucky for recruits seems to be the next big hurdle for KO… That would be ghost pepper hot...

I'll be happy to beat out Kansas and UNC first. Whether we like it or not, UK is at the top of the recruiting pile.

We aren't actually going after many of the same recruits as UK this year though. Malik. Jones maybe? Not sure who else.

Well Kansas was taken down in the Jalen Adams recruitment (along with Louisville, who we've recently beaten out for both Adams and Cassell, Jr.)

True. A good victory. We have beat them out before (UK too--Majok), but it would be nice to consistently one up them. Completely un-empirically, I feel like we are getting there.

Would love to nab Briscoe over Louisville.

If KO wins another one in the next few years it might be really hard to keep him at UCONN if he has NBA aspirations. I asked someone close to KO about this a while back and they said he is happy right now but is (obviously) a very ambitious guy and he could see him leaving at some point. But that was just one (well informed) person's opinion. He might just want to stay at UCONN and become a HOF coach like JC- not a bad gaol for an ambitious guy.

DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The longer he stays at UCONN, the harder it will be for him to leave. This is a completely unfounded opinion, but I'll be surprised if he leaves UCONN while JC is alive. Ollie is loyal as anything.

I think of it the opposite way.

If Ollie wins another soon, he has a chance to become a college coaching legend. Two in his first few years might mean another 2 or 3 over the next 20 years. 5 championships for a 60 year old coach?

Huh, with a list like that, I'd say the only women you arent into are the ones with adams apples.

And you call yourself a fan. If the company was worth working for they would understand and appreciate the cause. *Actually in all seriousness this is exactly why I bring my personal laptop to work where I already have two computers.

Hansel?

(A bit depressing to find out that's a 13 year old reference now.)
