Is anyone else excited? | The Boneyard

Is anyone else excited?

Most definitely. I really like KO. He always seemed like a good guy and we have to forever be grateful for him breathing confidence and fire into Boat, Bazz, and DD in 2014. But it is a new beginning and one that I am truly psyched for. It will be nice to get some fresh ideas in here and hopefully have someone who can impart a style and new culture on our program. There's no reason for us to not being a dominant factor in the AAC and be a big winner. It might take a year or two for the new coach to get their guys in and start building their style. But I have no doubt that we will again be a very successful program. The history is too strong, the fanbase more than casual, and our name still means something.

Ollie may be a good guy but he’s also a bad basketball coach. David Benedict is thankfullly an AD with the balls to pull the trigger. I don’t know what “for cause” is all about. No one does. I’ve heard from folks who’ve claimed it’s everything from minor recruiting violations to a “me too” issue. Let’s let it play out. Time to move on to better days.

I am. Even though other people dont see it, we have a bright future. Jalen is staying so we have a superb player on the roster. I doubt CV will leave, AG will hopefully be healthy. If our bigs stay and work hard we can be right back on track.

For Benedict, This hire needs to be 100x better than his football hire. No unemployed older coach that is coming into his retirement job.

Excited that KO is gone, but apprehensive because AD must make the right hire.

Don’t want a re-boot of the last 4 years with the “wrong” hire.

I am, although watching the previous six years on UConn Husky Games will have a different vibe I'm not really looking forward to feeling.

"Excited"? More like gravely concerned and hoping for the best

And I find the thought of two more bad seasons appalling.

I guess it's a a matter of perspective

Apples and oranges. The UConn MBB head coaching job is much more prestigious than the UConn FB job. Edsall was a good hire because he's not a young coach that will bolt for the P5 at the first glimpse of success. With our hoops pedigree we can get a top-notch coach in here, and with any sustained success he sticks around for the long haul.

I’m excited about UConn basketball for the first time since preseason of 2016-17, when we were ranked. We all know how that started.

I have hope again. Yesterday, with Ollie as coach, I had no hope that we’d ever be good again. This is the only way forward. Glad AD Dave moved quickly and aggressively to fix things.

Depends who they hire.

They need an A+ hire to help fight the head winds we face.

But certainly optimistic. It just wasn't working with Kevin.

Count me in on being excited... Didn't think today would be possible .... But now I feel Kevin Garnett

"Anything is possible!!!!"

This hire will likely be the official end of the Calhoun Era ties. Will be strange but should pump some fresh life into he program.

I don’t know what “for cause” is all about. No one does.
I used to tell clients that even an invalid patent had value.
The same can broadly be said about any lawsuit - with the exception of frivolous lawsuits that can cost you the other side's legal fees, every lawsuit has value.
In this case, if they have anything at all on Ollie, they will be able to reduce the amount they pay him to leave.

Ollie's lawyers will factor in the following:

Buy out number.
Cost of litigating, including appeals.
Risk of losing big, or completely.
Time value of money.

The best KO can do is the cost of his buyout. He'll take less to avoid a litigation and the risk of getting substantially less or nothing.

I'll use this weekend to mourn because no matter what side people are on, today is not good. Nothing is certain and its still a UConn "AAC" rebuild.

I’m with you. It’s natural to be excited about change when things are miserable. That’s the norm. But too much history argues against these emotional reactions. Hope I’m wrong.
