Think back to the drama in 2003-04 during the first round of re-alignment:

At the last second the ACC decides to check in with Notre Dame delaying Boston College's invite.

Had this not happened UConn maybe in the ACC right now, Pittsburgh would have been added to the Big XII to replace A&M and TCU, Louisville and WVU are fighting to become Missouri's replacement, with the other two hoping for the Big XII to go to 12 to ensure a home for each of them.

It was this delay that triggered all the vitriol including the naming of DeFilippo and Father Leahy as individual defendants in the lawsuit. Had this delay not happened there is likely less angst and less of a reason on the BC side to give an alternative to ESPN's suggestion as to which schools add the greatest value.

With the way things have played out, the irony comes back. If the MWC proposal comes together and DeFillippo really is forced out at BC, he'll probably have a presser announcing his retirement, borrowing Bush's MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner having relegated UConn to the non-BCS ranks.

I don't know why folks continue to argue that BC blocked UConn as payback.

Dude, it's not personal, it's business.

BC doesnt want the competition. It's the same reason USF has been against adding UCF, Florida is against Fla St., & SC is against adding Clemson. In less than a decade, BC went from b-ball power to being completely overshadowed by UConn. Now, in less than a decade, UConn football is at parity (if not surpassed) BC football.

The reasons are simple and obvious, and are consistent across the country. Why is there still any debate?

DeFlip has publically stated his personal reasons and they weren't all business.

I think this debate demonstrates matters are both logical or emotional. Or to use your terms, business and personal.

IIRC, the suit was filed with VT as an original plaintiff, before the switcheroo with Cuse and BC not making the original vote in order to take a shot at ND. It was Blumenthal's press conference announcing the suit and the inflammatory pleading style that started all the whining by BC. Were Defilippo and Leahy later added as individual defendants?

The fatal mistake was Blumenthal expanding the action and suing Defilippo, Swofford, and Fr. Leahy personally. I am sure such an action was unprecedented in college athletic conference history. But of course he made his political name for being an over zealous litigator and taking on such tough groups like the Boy Scouts of America.
