So listen to this. I don't spend a whole lot of time reading / paying attention to Dez, so most of the information I get comes from the board.

Most of the complaints seem to be that Dez isn't hard enough on the UCONN staff.

But listen to this interview. HIS take on the team when interviewed (Bower seems to ask Dez the questions that we wish Dez would ask P) seems a lot like ours. Maybe he isn't as much of an idiot as everyone thinks he is.

It's safer to say there are issues with the scheme now that Warde has basically said it publicly.

ahh, and heres the issue. is dez a coach or a employee of uconn? no, hes a beat writer for the local paper which means he should be all over the issues and giving his opinion of hwat he sees plus a report of what is actually going on. but this whole time he has played this like hes working for the staff and has no issues with things. never challenged things. all of a sudden our ad even can see the issues and speaks so now dez says a couple things. he was afraid to say anything until the issue was out in the open by a higher up media head so that the staff doesn't cut him or or hate on him for saying it.

in any other fball state, beat writers are all over this right away and if u cut access for 1 minute becuase u think the beat writer is hating on u then the writer makes the hate public and the school takes care of the issue by telling the coach its par for the course in this job. dez is stuck in RE ways where he fears lack of inside channels to the team. its a new day at uconn dez, we may have a bad coach but were acting like a big time program at least.

I thought it was columnists that are supposed to give opinions and beat writers are supposed to give the facts more or less.

It was interesting to hear his take and how he expressed it. Basically made it seem that we have a very steep hill to climb here. Like has been said on this thread, the tone was a bit different than his columns and comments.

That line is blurred now that beat writers have blogs. When they write for the paper, they have to just report the news. When they write on their blog, they can give their opinion.

As I said in the OP, I don't spend my time following him. I really don't care what he "thinks"...I watch the games, I talk to you fine folks. His opinion / commentary is pretty much irrelevant to me. I'm happy, or I'm not.

Off this particular topic....

But i thought it was interesting what he said about Jazzmar Clax at RB. I expected him at #1 LB, #2 FB. Certainly didnt see him as a RB. At 5'11 235 he could be a big back

Perhaps Dez has asked the questions of P that people want, but just hasn't reported on them. What if P gave a "I'm not going to address that and if you make an issue of it you can forget about access to the program" or something along those lines. Just speculating and playing devils advocate, because it seems its pretty obvious what the issues are that aggravate everyone and just as obvious what some of the fixes need to be. Just food for thought.

and if p does that then thats wrong and the school should punish him for it. dez is not a ct employee. its his right to ask tough questions. sometimes ppl like tough questions and sometimes ppl dont. look at jeff jacobs for example. but u can't knock him getting after issues or asking questions.

Even JJ doesn't get all the answers he wants no matter how many times he asks it. One of the writers pointed out (can't remember who, maybe Silvers) that PP is a pro and you are not going to catch him in a "gotcha" moment.

IMO Dez is trying to be too many things to too many people and tailoring his personna to them. He's too casual at times when people expect him to be prim and proper. Journalism is changing on the fly... often not for the good.

Btw. Have any of you met PP? In a small setting? Results aside. He is a pro and knows how the game works.

This isn't a small setting. It is, at least was big time college football, until Edsall left and we got stuck with a Schmoe

Missed the point. If you have ever had a one on one conversation with PP you will realize he isn't an old dope. That doesn't mean I love what he has done here. But to think that he doesn't know his way around the media is silly. Dez wouldn't have a chance of getting anything out of him he didn't want out.

Please stop following, linking to or giving any attention to this hack. Ignoring him makes him irrelevant like he should be. As long as folks continue to link to his articles and other pieces, he is deemed relevant. I refuse to visit, read or consider anything further from this spineless media moron.

JMoney has been on the cocktail circuit with Coach Blue. Wow
He's no dope? LMFAO. Neither are pop warner and HS coaches.
Did you ask him about the wildcat or taking a knee?

I think Conner is back pedaling. But other than that, he's the best Courant Football beat writer since Courchesne.

I like reading Kevin Duffy.

Also, no doubt in my mind that he knows how to sidestep the media. But the results on the field tell me that his ability to coach winning football is pretty limited.

I spent some time with him at the facility when he was first hired when my son and I had the opportunity to walk through the place with a couple of players 2 summers ago.

I'm not really sure what your point is.
