Unlike Edsall, under P we do not honor redshirted juniors who have told the staff they are leaving the program with a year of eligibility left, so we don't know whether any of the 8 scholarship fourth year juniors per our roster (Greene, Friend, Bullock, Hyppolite, Christen, Stephen, Willman, or Kenney) will be back. However, while it is always tough to read too much into this (because we are given wrong info all the time), note the following:

1. Jesse Joseph is not being honored. Joseph entered the year as a 4th year senior, but his early injury clearly gave him a 5th year next year if he wanted it. Hopefully, this is a sign that he is coming back.

2. Teddy Jennings was not, per the press release, being honored. This is more surprising. Jennings redshirted his first year with the program. For him to be given a sixth year, the NCAA has to approve and someone has to demonstrate that he was hurt his true frosh year and not just being redshirted.

3. Ryan Donohue was listed on our roster all year as a senior, but we all understood that he hadn't redshirted at MD and thus had the '13 season if he wanted it. He is not listed as being honored either.

Jennings and Joseph both coming back, obviously, would be a huge deal as they would be our starting DEs. Donohue would be competing with Graham Stewart and Ashiru for the openings being left by Johnson and Sio.

Anyway, I found it interesting.

Now if only Gratz and Wilson were not being honored. Just kidding and it is very interesting.

Not to hijack this thread, but I don't think I've even seen Donohue play on specials this year. Kind of weird after all that we heard about him to only see him get a few snaps.

Jennings and Joseph back would be phenomenal. I would be pretty excited about our d-line, linebackers and safeties.

As an update, in their summary of the departing seniors the Courant has stated that Jimmy Bennett could come back for a 6th year and that it's still under consideration (even though he's being honored tomorrow).

I thought Bennett had a very slow start to the year, but I think he has gotten better and, in either event, having your LT return when the depth behind him has never stepped on the field would be no small thing.

Just wondering has anyone received any word that Ted Jennings is seeking a 6th year?? Is he still even enrolled at UConn?? I really find his situation and status interesting and very puzzling to say the least….

Never mind everyone, I just read the article in the JI, where Jennings is going to apply for a 6 th year... good luck to him...

The Ji today actually confirmed what I thought, which is that Jennings is asking the NCAA for a 6th year but that there isn't a basis for him to get one. That's fine if he applies anyway, but I wish for his sake he'd walk out on senior day so he and his family had that moment if he doesn't get a 6th year.

But getting him and Jimmy Bennett back unexpectedly would make a huge difference in next year's outlook, as I'm shaky on our plans at both those positions.
