Not sure if from post game presser or Fanta interview, but Dan Hurley commented that our team will get better as season progresses because we are young and have new parts.

While teams that were built in the portal with upperclassmen are what they are and prob won’t change much

Also commented about the team learning in Maui that just putting on a UConn jersey doesn’t guarantee victory…u need to put forth effort

We r a lucky bunch

Hurley has said that a bunch of times since the loss to Dayton in Maui. He's right. Just need some patience.

From the post game Dayton press conference:
“This UConn team that has lost three in a row out here is not the UConn team that we’ve been. It’s the UConn team that we are right now that I think is going to get a lot better,” Hurley said. “We’re relying on a lot of young players. The burden of wearing the uniform after back-to-backs right now looks like it’s weighing heavy on the group. I think right now we’ve just got to try to focus on becoming a good team and becoming a tougher team."

From the post game UMES press conference:
“We’re going to need grace and we’re going to need patience,” Hurley said. “Just incredible support from our fans and our crowd, not just in attendance, but also externally, social media. This team is– it’s a work in progress. We’ve got so many new guys, so many young guys, so many people that moved into much bigger roles or are playing for the first time, or just got here, who now are carrying the weight of the monster of a program that we’ve created here.”

“I think there’s a lot of things that could be better. But I think we’ll get that squared away. We’ve created a monster here that we’re not playing up to right now, but I do think (there is) potential for us to get there. Just, it’s just gonna take us a little bit more time.”

Before the Baylor game:
“If we start trying to figure out where we’re gonna be 10 days from now, that I think would be just a bad direction for us,” he said. “Because we’ve got a lot of young guys and a lot of new guys, and because we’re coming off such a tough week, our focus is just like, put the blinders on, turn off the external noise and just keep getting better… I think I’ve got to give the players grace and I’ve got to instill confidence in them. I can’t coach them frustrated, or we can’t coach them frustrated or disappointed, because it’s a group that’s gonna get better.”

From the post game Baylor press conference:
“Just getting that swagger back,” he said. “I think part of the problem has been me. I mean, I’ve coached these guys frustrated, I’ve coached them frustrated for too long. This is a team that’s going to be a work in progress and this is a team that’s gonna get better and better… I’ve got to coach this team with more grace and more building them up and more enthusiasm and more energy.

Clearly Samson, Tarris, Solo, Jaylin, Liam, and Jayden are steadily improving, and learning to play together.
I don't think they've matured and jelled into a real team, offensively or defensively.
It's frustrating--but Dan Hurley is, of course, correct that it gives them more upside, if they can get there by March.

I had ZERO panic after Maui. Too much talent and too good a coaching staff to play that poorly. It was so early you cant really throw in the towel which was utterly ridiculous with some fans and especially media members. It was laughable imho. Sure i had my criticisms just like a lot of people here but i had no doubt theyd turn things around and they have and will only get better even if there are a few more bumps in the road. I think a lot of people forgot just how bad this team looked two januarys ago and went on to win the title when "they figured it out" and the program has been rolling since.

Hurley is probably correct that teams built exclusively through the portal with older players will not have the player development we see with the Huskies.

However, those teams should get better as they learn to play together and develop their chemistry.
