very different experience in personI just fell asleep trying to watch it and I never sleep in the daytime.
I'm in Indiana at my in laws' house. They made sure that we were home in time for the start of the race. And then after the 1st lap everyone went in the kitchen to play cards.I just fell asleep trying to watch it and I never sleep in the daytime.
I worked for a guy years ago who worked for CBS Sports and it was his favorite thing to cover.very different experience in person
Because you drank 100 Busch Lights all weekend long?very different experience in person
when you attend, you need a radio to follow the race. The cars go too fast to always identify and lead changes or accidents occur out of your view.Years back a bunch of us were playing softball out here in San Diego on race day. One guy, who grew up in Indiana, brought a radio so he could listed to the race. The rest of us were flabbergasted... LISTEN to a car race???
Back in the day, the Indy 500 was so popular Indy made ABC telecast the race on tape-delay. Radio was the only way to know what was going on live.Years back a bunch of us were playing softball out here in San Diego on race day. That's about true. We went to a Brickyard at Indy, coolers allowed. We must have had 3 cases of Bud for 4 people.Because you drank 100 Busch Lights all weekend long?
The Snake Pit in the first turn used to be crazy, jalopy cars burned, "show us your .....", multiple state police patrolling in teams of 3; now primarily a concert. That's about true. We went to a Brickyard at Indy, coolers allowed. We must have had 3 cases of Bud for 4 people.
And behind the 1st turn, across the street was Mon Cheri. The manager told us on race weekends he has to beef up the quality of his roster so he brings in more staff from St. Louis. St. Louis, huh? Didn't expect that. The Snake Pit in the first turn used to be crazy, jalopy cars burned, "show us your .....", multiple state police patrolling in teams of 3; now primarily a concert.
Of course. But we in Connecticut. It was amazing once you see them change 4 tires and refuel in a nanosecond.very different experience in person
at least we have Lime Rock Park
and from what I've read, the viewers never saw Palou cross the finish line, no checkered flag, and no replay of the accident which caused the yellow. well done.
