With all the talk of the BE losing it's BCS AQ status with SyraPitt going (of course that is conditional on the likes of WVU, TCU and others not staying in the BE), I was curious how SyraPitt's average ranking (using all of the computer polls out there - including the ones the BCS uses) stacks up against all the teams being mentioned as possible replacements, along with UConn and ND. Below is the average ranking of each team over the last 4 seasons (2007 - 2010).
Boise St 13.75 (not a consideration, just thought I'd include them for comparison purposes)
TCU 15.75
BYU 25.25 (again, not going to happen, just included for comparison purposes).
Pitt 33.5 - leaves in 27 months or less
UConn 39
Air Force 39.75
Navy 47.25
Notre Dame 52.5 (again, not happening, just wanted them in there)
ECU 56.25
UCF 58
Houston 60.25
Temple 80.75
Syracuse 83.25 - leaves in 27 months or less
SMU 92.25
Army 98.5
Memphis 100.5
(this is out of 120 schools)
So, if we did keep the remaining 6 teams together, TCU still joined (huge improvement over Pitt), and we added any one of Temple, Houston, UCF, ECU, Navy, or Air Force we strengthen our BCS case. The interesting thing here is that Cuse leaving the BE could have been the best thing that happened to our football league. This also should be reason enough NOT to consider Memphis.
All for not, I know, b/c the BE is done. I was just curious.

Great points. And we need to break away from our "Big East Brand" in order to survive. That means, the onlies.
