Watching Stewie's growth over the last 3 1/2 years makes me proud to follow this team. There will be articles and posts written about and breaking down the development of her basketball skills ... and they are historically impressive. She is now a complete player. Her offensive repertoire, her defensive presence, her toughness and her leadership make her an all-time great. Not just UConn all-time, but Women's College Basketball all-time great (but I guess the first automatically makes you the second).
What is equally praiseworthy is her development as a young woman. In the interview after tonight's game she showed a poise and thoughtfulness that is all-American. She has progressed from the sometimes goofy, sometimes distracted freshman to an introspective, insightful academic all-American. That progress will serve her well in the 98% of her life she is not on the basketball court.
I marvel at that development as much as her unstoppable jump hook and her blocked shots.
