Improvement for Merrimack

Calhoun used to pull players after 1 minute if he didn't like what he saw, then go after them on the court. I'd like to see some of that in KO, but I know it's not his style.

From what I understand, this is an irrelevant thread. These games are meaningless and have no correlation to anything. So, if they improve over the last exhibition, it means nothing.

We need to see some discipline on offense. Under Ollie, there is a tendency to stay on the perimeter and literally chuck the ball to the hoop. What people saw against PC was exactly that.

Penetration, and efficient ball movement is something we haven't seen consistently. When they stick to the perimeter and shoot with 25 sec. On the clock, it never works.
I didn't see that until the team got behind 16 -18 points.

All of this plus more cohesive offense and defense, less simple fouling, better rebounding on both ends, passes into the post and back out, post scoring, and to see individual player development. Always looking for this. Maybe free Happy Meals for all who attend. What else ya got?
We had 11 offensive rebounds to PC's 3. PC's defensive rebounds (31) were significantly higher than UConn's (18) because they shot lights out and UConn couldn't hit baskets. Rebounding in that game was not the problem. Shooting was. If anything PC really misses Holt.

How do these have no meaning? If we struggle in this game, do you think we will suddenly turn it around come the first real game? Do they not try in exhibition games? Is there not still a game plan?

I understand that there is more flexibility in exhibitions, but to say they are irrelevant is ignorant.

They have meaning. We just don't know how much until the season plays out.

Having such a new team, I would argue these exhibitions mean more than they ever have. We don't have the luxury to gel the first couple months of the season, or else an at large bid could be gone quickly. I think you will look back on these games and realize KO is using these like real games.

Gone are the days of beating our exhibition opponents by 40. Those games make it really hard to see what we have because we were so talented.

This will more than likely be a 10-12 pt game, which you can tell a lot from.

Lol those facts are something else huh

My point is that this team is unlike any of those teams. You see the offensive woes in 2006-2007.

You see the team only winning by 15 last year in one exhibition.

Some of those deeper teams had the walk ons in with 4 minutes left.

Several factors.

After re reading your post I actually agree with your overall point. Though I dont think the days of winning exhibition games by 40 are over

For some people around here, the games have no meaning unless it supports their narrative. Then they mean everything. None of them will admit it, however.
