Geno used to throw players out of practice. If they weren’t given enough effort, werent listening, or werent in the right frame of mind, he would say they didn’t belong at practice and send them home.

I think this practice ended in the mid-2000s, as he recognized that players had changed and it wasn’t an effective piece of coaching anymore. And he mellowed. 😁

1) does anyone know when it ended?
2) this is the near-impossible part: who was the last player kicked out of practice??

I thought some class of freshmen got kicked out of the locker room in the last 15 years... maybe Phee's class? not sure.

The kicked out of the locker room thing was the year after Diana, I believe.

That's notable as well, but different from the question I raised.

I think it was Dolson's Freshman class. Samarie Walker, Bria Hartley, Michaela Johnson, Stephanie Dolson and Laura Engeln.

Walker, Johnson and Engeln all transferred at some point during their time at UConn

Yes, I'm pretty sure Stef discussed it on Azzi's podcast. Or it could have been another podcast appearance, but I know Stefanie talked about it somewhat recently.

Phee was on Azzi's podcast saying the entire team got thrown out of the locker room. They wore these oversize sweatsuits. When they got to practice the next day, the heat was off. The coaches showed up an hour late and made them run the entire time.
