The IMG contract has been renewed til 2033 per the upcoming BOT agenda. The athletic department to received the greater of $93 million and a percentage of net revenues over the life of the contract. A secondary contract for the management and marketing of trademarks has also been renewed til 2033. The original trademark contract has exceeded expectations.

Huh? What? Someone is giving us $93 million to own us to 2033? But wait, thats something like $6.2MM a year.

I can't tell if this is an incredible deal for UConn or a rip off. Anyone have a clue?

And will the state use this money in 1 month or manage to extended out over 2 months?

Hard to tell without knowing the cash / apparel split. Last contract was worth 8+ a year.

IMG also probably is rights holder for radio broadcasting of UConn men's and women's basketball, football, etc.

You are talking about the Nike deal. IMG handles the media, marketing, advertisement rights for UConn.
No, I am talking about IMG.

UConn in good hands with IMG deal

Nike contract is separate from IMG contract:

Breaking Down UConn's $32.4 Million Contract With Nike

>>The UConn athletic department will have $9 million to use at its discretion. The remaining $23.45 million of the $32.45 million deal, which spans seven years, will be represented by uniforms, apparel, gear and equipment.<<

The last contract was 80million/10yr and started in 2009.

When you lock into a average decrease for 15 years...
anyone who thinks there are secret backchannel conversations with the ACC or Big 10 - please stop.

But what about the double secret exit clause?!? For change in conference affiliation.

My instincts feel like this contract is too long, 10 years is better and take the risk on the remaining 5.

Apples and oranges. This contract is about UConn's name recognition and brand value independent of affiliation.

(And no, there isn't a back channel deal to get UConn to the ACC or Big 10.)

Anyone know how this stacks up among Nike deals nationally?

It’s an IMG deal not Nike. So of course the affilliation matters.

The Nike deals for everyone are worth a fraction of what they claim. The 8th pair of sneakers calculated retail for the 13th man on the basketball team gets doesn’t actually provide any value to the school. Adding it to the value of the deal is a farce.

UConn's timing with the 2008 IMG deal was very fortunate. IMG lost their shirt. New contract reflects diminished brand w/ AAC and the new structure balances the partnership.

as an aside:
■ The Learfield-IMG College merger taking longer than anticipated to consummate. Some would say it already has taken longer than expected, but sources at the Final Four said the questions coming from the Department of Justice are far deeper and more detailed than previous queries and many of the marketing and media agencies that work in the college space are being interviewed. The DOJ is in what it calls the “second request” phase of the review, during which it takes a deeper dive into the marketplace to determine how the merger might affect competition. This is obviously not a rubber-stamp process.

The trademark contract bring in $750,000 annually. The IMG contract also allows for a percentage of revenues.

The last contract did as well. No spinning this one ... our conference situation is slow death.
