My apologies, David. But seeing this photo reminded me of what I have long pondered- just who will replace Geno when that inevitably painful day comes- and as much as I dread it, it will come, sooner than we like.
The great Sue Bird has some years yet to go in her playing career, and though I have no idea of Geno's 'timetable,' or Sue's intentions after the WNBA or broadcasting, there might be a wonderful fit here.

Sue has the incredible persona, respect and reputation to fit as well as anyone possibly could into Geno's un-fillable shoes. Nobody knows the program, its demands and its philosophy better than Sue (I don't imagine CD will stay on too long after Geno, and she's hinted that she not interested in being his replacement).

What an absolutely unbeatable recruiter, role model and (hopefully) UConn head coach Sue Bird could one day be! (And we'd get to see that beautiful face a whole lot more!)

In all of these discussions someone invariably says: You forget Sue does not like Connecticut. Then someone chimes in that Sue intends to make a career in broadcasting.

Or, she might want to coach an Israeli team, as she's a citizen of Israel and has expressed an interest in retiring to Tel Aviv.

...or she might want to join the Israeli air force, or she might want to live and work on an agricultural kibbutz in Galilee, or, or, or...stop ruining my perfect dream scenario with your well-reasoned logic.

All I can say is WOW. Guess I don't read in the proper circles. I will say logic tells me that unless Sue gets into some slot as a coach soon I just don't see the head spot at UConn would go to anyone with no time on the bench in some capacity. Rizzotti might be the most experienced but I believe that Shea will likely have the inside track. Real question is when. Geno has two years left after this season so does he sign a new deal or not? It will be interesting.

Geno will have to check with the Boss (CD) before signing his next contract. :)

Ummm - CD aint the boss on that issue - the lady at home who does not want a grumpy old man hanging around the house all day, every day, is the one pulling those strings or rather moving his hand around the page as he signs his next contract!

Ummm, maybe you're right...that would explain why CD and Mrs. A. have been seen huddling together lately... lol :)

The numbers game with Geno. For the sake of the discussion let's say the Huskies run the table this year. That will put his win total at 955. I am pretty sure he is under contract for two more years and they have averaged almost 37 per year for the past 10 years with a low of 32, If we meet the common mark he gets another 70 wins and would then be at 1025 +/- a few. So he would need 75 give or take a few to top Summitt's career number. And he would be I think 64 as the season of 2017/18 ended. Will he sign for 5 more or something less? Strictly a guessing game. Only hope I can be around for whatever he decides to do, it is a great ride.

When Geno leaves, CD leaves I suspect.
IMLTHO (humility was never one of my many strong suits) I would find it a much bigger surprise if CD stayed after Geno for even a day. Guessing another 5 years maybe as many as 7 should do it.

IF the new hire was one of her former players especially if that player was new to Uconn's coaching staff, I could see CD agreeing to stay on for a transition year to help if she was asked to do so.
