He writes that whole column scorching DeFilippo ... and that had a bunch of wisdom; but, he avoided the Gorilla in the room: ESPN (our State neighbor & the recipient of immense new State largesse for jobs) was SCREWING us. They partnered (as DeFilippo correctly stated) with the ACC to severely damage the Big East conference. And Governor Malloy hasn't said diddly about that.

Jacobs: You are a damn . It's easy getting 15-20 CT residents to be with you when you find some reason to go after Calhoun. Maybe against Auriemma. You can come out of your "claim" that Hathaway was railroaded out of his job ... despite lots of evidence that he had failed in crucial Athletic Director roles. But, the BIG STORY about a a State business that was damaging OUR State University, you never mention?

Jeff wants to get his mug on ESPN the next time Yahoo breaks a story on Calhoun, so he can pile on a bit.

Agree with Pudge. Jacobs put one foot in the water with that article but missed the real story.

Won't read JJ. When he is on he removes himself from the story. But he is as flawed as Defillipo, which is why he made the statement about moving on. (I won't clicky JJ's page, but read that here.)

So a lot of his articles are personal vendettas or self promotion. Don't expect him to come out strongly against a potential future job. I'm with Pudge.

He certainly missed there. If company that us partners with two conferences, and deals with one to the detriment of the other partner, that is certainly shady, and in this case, newsworthy.

He should be able to find someone to back up Flippys statement. It's what a good journalist would do. Future employer or not

Unfortunately, there are very few good journalists left in this world. Investigative journalism is a dead profession.

It might be worth an investigatory story from the Courant but it isn't worth a knee jerk accusation against ESPN.

There are media consultants who stepped all over the Big East in an effort to sell their wares.

There's no shortage of numbers on the last ACC deal. The conference averaged $1.5 million per team more by 2008 but a chunk of that was from yearly 3% step increases and a chunk went to the league office leaving around $1.1 mil per team or $11 mil accretion for the 10 teams of which about 45% came from the Championship Game .

If you believe that EPSN is paying the ACC through the nose to destroy the BE then there's a story there. If you believe its structured like the last deal then it's another $2 mil per team of something like that--and that's after the ACC cedes additional media rights and extends the contract for a few years at the 3% yearly increase. If the ACC network takes off then there's more money. Ask upstate Penn about getting the ACC Network placed there for 70 cents and bumping the BiG.
