it's because it isn't.
Remember the Tennessee game and especially the Notre Dame game at the XL Center. I do. I remember thinking that JC was taking a new approach. That he was much calmer on the bench.
I was wrong. JC was in intense pain. He wasn't calmer. He just couldn't move without his back reacting. He wasn't coaching, he was hanging on. Trying to fight the pain and losing. The fire hadn't gone out. It was burning up his spine. He wasn't coaching, he was surviving.
Remember when Coach K had back pain. I think Duke won 18 games that year.
So if you want to be pissed at Calhoun for not being immortal, go right ahead. But how long was JC suffering before anyone knew about it? How well could you do your job with the same pain? How diminished was JC as a coach this year?
Yeah, making Blaney the coach was pretty stupid. That's on JC. A move made out of loyalty. There are worse things.
But when the morons get on here and say this team has no heart, the only sense where that is true is that they don't have their heart in practice or on the bench. He's just came out of surgery. They don't have a Hall of Famer in their corner. They have Blaney. The effort is good. They're not lazy but they are missing something. The real Calhoun would have demanded more, pushed more, screamed more and gotten it out of them.
So act like a bunch of idiots dancing in a circle if you like. Blame the entire season on one bad pass by Bazz or blame it on Lamb's eyelids. Or blame it on Rio.
I'm going to bed.
