then were still uconn god dammit! we can and will make noise in the ncaat.
the last 2 weeks this team has really put it together. we still are clearly not totally there but we are getting close. no matter your personal opinion of cuse they are no doubt a top 3 team this year and u can argue from there unc/uk who is best. but this team has everything. size, depth, a good coach, slashing guards, wing shooters etc. losing to cuse the 3 times we have isn't fun, but all 3 times we were within a ref call, rebound, bad bounce, extra pass or made shot that would have changed things late in the games. hats off to cuse and the year they are having but lets not get it twisted here. the boneyard has been a mess since january. i lurked here for a while before joining on scout a couple years ago then now here but i can't remember a time where the board was this wild. after todays game there is way way to much down spirit and hate coming around. we are a def for the ncaat and its just about who/where and when right now. we played a great 3 games in msg. last years hi5tory was so special because it really is something that isn't going to be seen much ever. the dreams of that happening the next year again are nice and sure espn pumped the crap out of it, but lets sit back and be real for a couple minutes.
-uconn finished all BE games going 10-11. not exactly great but lets look at it more. we went 0-3 vs cuse. thats a tough 3 to hurt your BE record.
-also that tenn loss doesn't look that bad now considering their mid season add and run here with that stud frosh.
-first off, get well wolf. not sure exactly what happened in practice but wish the kid the best. after the season the rumors with him are going to start flying around again and who knows what will happen but thank you for picking uconn. you were a part of a class that was do or die at the time for this program considering what had happened at that time. having another big body like him only helped us get better in practice. i hope u finish your career at uconn and turn into a nice center that can make noise in europe.
okay to the game.
-we settled way to much from 3 today. 6-23. not going to work for this team.
-we outrebounded cuse but they are not a great boards team. this was where we needed to be which was good to see after the wvu beating on the boards we took.
-i thought gif gave us good minutes today, which is what we need from him. small pockets of time where he can be glue guy. long minutes he gets exposed but short spurts he is a great bench piece at this time in his career. JC played him the right way today.
-olander, please stop with the olander hate. he clearly had his time this year cut with ao/ad getting a lot of time and lately the comeback of scoe. this type of game was where he is highly useful and it showed. did he miss some shots and u wish he did something different? sure, but without him in the high post our option for moving the ball through that spot to break the zone are worse from there. i was happy with olanders game today. kid had a very balanced game from the high post spot with 4pt and 4 ast. he hit the boards very well today also with 8.
-our turnovers were bad down the stretch when we went cold no doubt, but we only had 10 on the game, overall thats good vs the zone i think. olander only had 1 to with the ball going thru him on the high post which is very good.
-boatshow is struggling. big lights, maybe hurt a bit(arm?) and just being younger than everyone game experience wise on the court. take that and add the cuse zone and there great 5 guy rotation of guards and thats what happens. he def did miss some runners/bunnies but i can t be down on the kid. he hustles his ass off and tries. he is going to be alot of fun to watch in the ncaat vs teams who don't have what cuse has.
-we blocked a lot of shots today btw
-cuse only had 4 turnovers, count 5 if that melo shot could count as 1. say what u want but they make it count on o.
-lamb, this was the one downer i had today and i saw exactly what happened. he was his typical slef in the 1st half as we hung in there. some good shots some tough misses from deep. in the 2nd half we tried to get him going right at the beginning of that cold stretch we had and this is what happened. we got him a decent look from 3 but he couldn't nail it. next time down the court we looked elsewhere even though he was moving and we missed a shot by some 1. the next time down the court he started to move again and a cuse player hugged him and he was looking for a off ball foul that didn't happen. he got frustrated by that and then mentally checked out. that was it from him for the game. in the last 2 minutes on back to back possessions he literally stood in one spot on the left side of the court and didn’t play basketball. you can bet that will be addressed in film later this week by JC.
-speaking of JC i know all his antics are who he is on the sidelines and some love it and some hate it, but i think he needs to calm down with the aggressive choke signal. i get that its him and all the verbal lashing etc, but seeing the choke that clear on tv just doesn't look great.
-ao, he was playing well and foul trouble got to him and we never saw him again. we have discussed it before. lately he has been playing well but when he gets into foul trouble he goes away and we don’t get his good play as result. he NEEDS to stay out of foul trouble for this team to make a ncaat run. he is a key piece that can't be missing.
-scoe just hasn't looked good from the line lately, but the kid tries and tries again. he gets contact every chance he gets and mixes it up underneath. maybe hes just not developed enough in his game yet but he is still important role player wise to this team. he just like ao ahs really come on lately and thats a great sign. scoe was very cold from the field today, the zone i think was and will be a problem for him until he is further developed. i expect him to bounce back in typical scoe form in the 1st round of the ncaat.
-ad, my god that was a sick dunk. but something happened today. cuse decided that they were giving the high post in order to prevent to lob and they did a good job of it no doubt. even with that cuse adjustment he had a great game. but u can still see where he mentally check out for a minute from what we are trying to do. he got it in the post 1 time and body to body with melo tried one of his turn fade away shots. problem is(as we discuss so much) he shoots like a 3rd grader trying to reach from 3 and it easily got blocked by melo. he didn't do that the rest of the game as it was a quick reminder of why not to bother with that. but just the fact that he was willing to do that during a possession told me that he mentally forgot/check out for a second with what he needs to do vs what he wants to do. that said, the kid is clearly coming along very nicely. early ncaat games for us, teams won’t have a answer underneath for him/ao.
-lastly bazz. i hate how ppl get at him to much on this board. did he take to many shots today and force it at times? yea he did, but at the times he did that it was because a mixture of a couple things wern't happening. lamb standing around and no high flash and boat not wanting to drive caused bazz to try to do something because no one else wanted the rock in crunch time. cuse has 2 guys on the bench at all time who want the rock more than some of our guys late in games and thats a problem i'm not sure we can fix for this year. its tough to watch when he is stuck with nowhere to go because other guys mentally packed it in. then we he has to do something deperate to try to save our lives he looks abd for it. i'm with u bazz and i see what u see. keep up the hard work and never die attitude. bazz is our leader.
-the refs wern't great today, but they are not the reason we lost this game at all.
-the cuse zone is truly big and lengthy like never before. no team has 2 or 3 guards cuse size that can sit on top like them let alone that cuse has 5 guys they rotate up there who can all play. that zone for once is the real deal. i think we just can't handle it somewhat with what our roster pieces are this year. the depth of cuse allows JB to find the 5 guys of the 9 he plays who are having good games so when crunch time comes no matter what the game is looking like, cuse has a 5 out there looking for blood.
-did i mention the drummond dunk?!?!?!
random thought, if you’re looking for a underrated team to make a run that isn't a mid major i think GT might be that team. they grind out games and i think they will make some noise in the ncaat.
-next week starts a new season for us, i think we can get to the sweet 16 with the team i saw play the last 2 weeks and then from there its matchups. it will be fun to watch. now who the fruck are we going to hang in this biotch?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?
-also check out the aurburn point shaving stuff when u get a chance. could be something interesting in the making down there.
