Dear AD Benedict and UCONN administration:
I'm cold.
I've been getting colder and colder every fall.
The last time I was really warm, and cushy and the stadium was sold out (against a non-Big10 team at home) was the last game of the season in 2010 when we were competing for a league title and a New Years Day bowl game. I was warm for a while after, but it's been getting colder, especially when the sun isn't warm anymore in November. (not like September when the sun can keep me warm)
It wasn't all that long ago, when I was warm a lot, even when it was snowing. 40,000 butt cheeks can generate a lot of heat. And not too stinky either, because the stadium is always windy at the end of the runway.
I was warm, because we recruited well enough, and coached well enough to win. Win a lot at home. Win on the road even some too. We were recruiting well enough, and coaching enough to win on the road against Notre Dame. We were recruiting well enough and coaching well enough, and playing well enough to go to Alabama and beat Steve Spurrier's SEC team in a bowl game.
We even drove the ball inside their 5 yard line late in the game, and then kneeled on it to win. We had actually scored enough points to do that.
THe last time I was really warm (against a non-Big10 opponent at home) , we won enough to go compete with Oklahoma on New Years Day on the road. Then the coach that had done that recruiting and coaching left the players that did the playing.
It happens - that's big time college football.
A new coach was hired. Players played and coaches coached. Bad, inconsistent football for a while. It wasn't working. We weren't winning. Another coach was hired. Bad, inconsistent football became incompetent football in a season of scrimmages . Bad, inconsistent football has become incompetent football.
And now I'm cold. So cold. I hope that a coach comes, and recruits come, that make me warm again.
Signed,
Rentschler Field bleachers.
