And now with Weist we can get the offense producing....

I would be happy to get to 7-5 and a bowl this year. That would show progress.

I do believe PP is bringing in a different level of recruit overall. Seems to be stronger top to bottom class.

Previously, we've had two stars who played and performed like 4 star players. I want to see one of our 3 star players play at a 5 star level. With all due respect to Donald Brown, Freeney, McNab & Harrison were at another level. I'd take a guy like that over teaching the offense the victory formation.

If we can put several improving recruiting classes and if we've addresses our biggest coaching issue, I think PP can turn this around.

Donald Brown was every bit as good a college player as any of those guys you mentioned. Different story at the pro level of course, but in college his performace stands on its own.

I like your overall point, but you can't do more than Donald Brown did for his Jr year. The guys you mentioned had better pro careers but Brown was a collegiate superstar. Our only one to date.

I shouldn't have put the Donald Brown thing in there. You couldn't ask for more.

But i think there is room for our overall talent level to improve. That is what I meant.

In my opinion, one of the keys to being successful at UConn requires developing players as the Northeast does not produce as many polished HS football players as in the South. Thus, I don't think star ratings are necessarily a good indicator of our Northeast recruiting. Thus, it's too early to tell how good PP's recruiting has been until we see the results on the field. Another key is QB. This is not a knock, but there have not been many high level FBS QBs that have come out of the Northeast in recent years. UConn has to go find QBs that have been developed by high level coaches in states like Texas, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio,... Finally, I don't think UConn can compete using a spread offense based on superior athletes, but they can compete with a power football scheme.

Beatty and Thomas helped make Brown good ....and he was very good

So did playing with a running QB like Lorenzen, LB's had to hesitate that extra half second to make sure Tyler didn't have the ball. DB was great though, I hope we get to see the likes of him again at some point. Hopefully Mariner.

If Donald Brown went almost anywhere but Indy we probably see much better production. Injuries haven't helped either. Being the physical speciman he is and knowledge of the body (Kinseology major) the injuries were surprising.

No reason he couldn't have done well with the Ravens to name just one team.

I wish he didn't have to wait one more year to be a free agent.
