I'm guessing the diaper dandies never really got their diapers off. There's clearly something to be said for teams who have a core of really solid players with 1 or 2 one and done type of players to add some real flair. To build a team around that means you have to catch lightning in a bottle, and thankfully, it happens very infrequently...

Cal complained at his press conference that his "players did a poor job of subbing themselves out when they got tired."

They did a poor job of teaching themselves offense and defense in practice, too.

It's true.

Imagine if these poor guys did not have a chef on call, 24/7. They might be eating Funyuns or waffles like Russ Smith, lol.

How is the fan base reacting to this? Are they in meltdown mode? I remember last year there was a vocal group who expressed concerned about the "NBDL" system Cal has in place there ... and that was one year removed from a nat'l championship!

Ha, one thread over on their Rivals board says this:

UCONN 2010/2011 lost last 7 of 11 in regular season
I would hate to see the meltdown if we did that. I am disgusted about the loss, but as wide open as CBB is this year I think it will be a wide open tourney.

Response:

There ain't one player on this team that could tie Kemba's shoes in clutch moments.

Pretty much all UK forums on Rivals, Scout & 247 are criticizing the one and done rule and how it doesn't work anymore.

They're about 50% savaging Calipari................which is frankly amazing. Dealing with the man is one part, the "system" another. Naturally, I was disappointed that there were no threads dedicated to his cheating to get ballplayers.

But you have to start somewhere.

When Kentucky won it in 2012, just about every basketball writer announced to the world that Cal had changed the way college basketball would be played from here on. Everyone would be looking for 5 one-and-dones and the blue bloods would get 10. Then of course Louisville won it last year with a bunch of experienced players and they forgot all about the original prognostications...
