I dont mean to be a downer, but how good is he? I cant find him on any recruiting rankings. Seems like a 3 star prospect. Dont get me wrong, Id love anoher committment, but we are going after much better players than him (or highly ranked). Would this impact our ability to get some of those players, mainly Selden, XRM?? I know they are both 2 guards, but a guard is a guard.

We're looking to sign two guards in this class. A higher ranked kid like XRM or some of the others we're looking at probably wouldn't see Samuel as a reason not to go to Uconn. But who knows.

If not mistaken ranking wise his stock has dropped like a rock this summer. Dropped to an 88 and a 2** right? He is still getting offers though. Kevin Ollie type player literally. That is not a bad thing. :D

Terrence Samuel is a long term player. The guards that we are recruiting, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Isaac Hamilton, Davon Reed, Stevie Clark, Wes Matthews, Wayne Selden, are all much further along in their all around abilities at this time. Therefore I don't think that they would be detoured from coming here when Terrence Samuel commits today(I believe he will). He is ranked by some recruiting services:
ESPN: Not in top 100 Grade: 65 PG: 76 2 stars
Rivals: #89 in 150 4 stars
Scout: Not in top 100 3 stars

remember when moe harkless, cleveland melvin, lamb committed. All of those guys were "ok" and didn't look like "sexy" pickups. They then exploded when they started playin in college. I trust our scouts and they definately have a great eye for talent. The names we recruit and land arent "sexy" but in the end, thats what makes us who we are and thats how we recruit. Rather then put all of our money on a single 5* might as well go out and land the top 3*-4* recruits out there before the other schools start to recruit them after loosing out on the big fishes.

True. But Harkless, Lamb, Melvin were all super long and athletic, as well as they were all ranked. Harkless 35-40, Lamb rose to about 65-70 and I dont remember Melvin. Thats a lot different than a 6-3 guard who isnt ranked on most sites. Again, Im not saying I dont want him or that its a bad signing. I just wanted to see if we still had a shot a better players. It wasnt too long ago that we signed Top 25 players regularly (multiple in each class). I hope we can still get a few to complement typical JC steals like Lamb.

Harkless and Lamb rose in the rankings AFTER they verballed to Uconn. Melvin was never ranked by anybody.

And I think the reason the staff likes Samuel is because he is also "long and athletic" for his position.

Any reason why, that you know of? I hope it wasn't his car...

After reading more about him on UConnBall.com , I can say that I won't mind a commitment from Samuel. At first, I was skeptical as many of us are ...

Sorry but while I like players committed to UCONN I am not particularly excited about Samuel as he seems like a reach for a UCONN. He doesn's seem like an impat guy. You would expect that UCONN would be able to pull a more talented PG prospect than Samuel particularly with an ex-NBA payer coahing him in the position. But I agree withthose who say, if the staff likes him than that says a lot.

BTW, I like Facey but still am not particulalry excited about him either. This guy just barely scratches the top 100. Remember this is UCONN, 3-time national champion and NBA 1st Round Preperatory School. We develop NBA talent. One would think we would pull much more highly rated players. Also UCONN is a TOP 25 NATIONAL PUBLIC
UNIVERSITY. Again, we should pull beter talent. I'm just sayin........................

Quick rank the following bigs in terms of high school ranking:
  1. Oriakhi
  2. Drummond
  3. Adrien
  4. Okuandu
  5. Edwards
  6. Thabeet
  7. Kelley
  8. Nelson
  9. Armstrong
  10. Boone
  11. Charlie
  12. Okafor
That's almost every big on UConn since 2004.

Now take that list and rank it by who did the most for UConn. I don't think your expectations will match reality when it comes to high school rankings.

Throw in Ater Majok for good measure.

Kentan Facey has another year of HS BB to develop & enhance his skills. Afterward, a Summer at UConn to weight train & further develop. Not worried here. He's a 4* top 25 PF ...

this board has gone full wacko. we just got a regional kid who is a top 100 player. clearly the staff likes something about him and thinks they can turn him into a nba player. based on my lifetime as a uconn fan, i'll trust the staff. chesus. i'll take samuel also. last time we had a guy come in at a guard position that was lengthy but needed some work his freaking name was jermey lamb. now back to the other thread where people turn a simple talk about kuran iverson into a allen iverson 15 year jail sentence thread somehow. they are distant cousins, so freaking distant that they really aren't cousins. until i see kuran in a uconn uniform and allen iverson on the sideline with a cane and several hoes routing for uconn, lets just forget about him for now...

Kentan Facey wasn't even known within most big colleges recruiting database. He came over to America from Jamaica in 2010, I believe. He has been here for two years and went from an unknow player to a top 100 recruit. He still has a year before he gets on campus and a whole high school season. He will add weight and I saw that he wants to get to 210-220 by time he is at UConn. That will give him more strength to finish down low. Right now he doesn't have that much of an offensive game and yet he is still in the top 100. He is a great shot blocker already. With another year of practice and games his offensive game will get a lot better. If he works on a nice midrange jumper and some post moves and has them down his ranking will go up and you won't complain. If he was ranked in the top 50 I bet you wouldn't have in the first place. He will only rise in the rankings from this point forward.

There is a reason why Kentucky, Indiana, UCLA, Florida, Louisville, Texas all either offered or started to recruit him this summer after he blew up. It just happens that he came to UConn!!!!

Precisely, he went from a 3* on Scout/2* on ESPN to a 4* on both sites and I don't believe he is done yet. Says a lot when you're getting interest from the list of schools noted ...

Kentan facey tweeted this, this morning "I'm getting 210 the end of the year!! Watch me"

Everywhere say that he is a hard worker and this backs it up. I like hard workers.
