reliant on the three, if we don't need to recruit at least one(and probably more) consistently deadly three point shooter. We have used essentially a three guard lineup fairly often this season; but we really don't have anyone who is automatic from that distance. I don't mention this just because we have to deal with Iowa State tonight; but I'm watching Murray State-Colorado State(and they are not the only teams who do this in this year's tournament) and these guys(on both teams especially Murray State) don't hesitate at all to hoist threes as the shot of choice. Now, in the case of both of these teams, there is no significant low post presence. In our case, having at least two solid three point shooters on the floor most of the time, should make it easier to get consistent offense from the low post. Thoughts??

We have but they did not pan out. Last one that supposedly had a great 3 point shot. averaged 25% and transferred out in spring of his freshman year. Giffey and Boatright are our best percentage-wise at around 40% but they need to shoot more.

I think that what you really want is Rashad 2.0...and he is a rare breed indeed.

Why do you think Calhoun recruited Jeremy Lamb and Shabazz Napier?

Nowhere near consistent enough; and while Jeremy could fill that need(I think we need more than just him), his disposition(demanding the ball) is problematic. And let me add, while Murray State shoots a ton of threes, they don't defend it well at all, and may very well get beat today because of it.

murray state is overrated. if we ran that offense people would be asking for calhouns head or blaming our players for taking bad shots.

Halftime score :

Colorado State - 24
Murray State - 23

This would seem to indicate that these teams have an over-reliance on hoisting the three.... But overall they are not any more successful in actually scoring effectively.

Depending upon your conference (or opponent, in the case of the NCAAT) that is a strategy that does not always pay off in the end.

But they were both recruited as good 3PT shooters. Even Giffey, Roscoe and Daniels all had reputations as very good outside shooters. Boatright probably had one of the lower reps and he shoots a good percentage.

BTW that 3PT specialist who couldn't cut it here was a 40% 3PT shooter for Tulsa this year. Of course Tulsa is 17-14 and sitting at home, that shooter couldn't really do anything else for Tulsa than shoot 3's.
