What is up this year with the tailgate nazis? I am usually a good fan. I back it up and give an an obscene amount of money each year and pretty much have an open check book and go to every thing no questions asked.

Today we had our tailgate packed up around noon and decided to hang out and have another beer. I know this will some backlash being a bad fan, but it is a nice day and it was Stoneybrook.

First we got warned by a nice lady and we told her we would be finishing our beers and going into the game. There were still three tailgates not even broken up in our row. A few minutes later a guy drove up and said we have to leave now or he would be calling the police on us. Really? He was very threatening. This just made a few of us in our group mad and we wanted to see what woule happen (and Uconn was losing at this point).

I haven't read the fine print on any of the websites or ticket information, but would they would ticket us for loitering or something like that? Could they really do that? We actually paid to park here. We park in the Blue lot and in all my years of going to games I have never seen any unruley behavoir, most of us when you break it down pay a lot of money to park and tailgate there.

They moved on to the tailgate down the row that had not broken up yet, and as we were leaving the police actually came. I was going to stay but we decided to go into the game.

I get it they want people in the game, but is this any way to treat the paying customers? Is this any way to treat it's donors? It left a bad taste in my mouth and pretty much everyone in the area. One thing that Uconn Football has going for it is it's tailgating atmosphere. Coming up on a three year re-up with a so-so team, this is no way to treat your paying customers.

I remember Dez posting a tweet about the Rent enforcing the rules set years ago (which had largely gone unenforced)

You are right they are wrong but the school does not get it.

Probably shouldn't be enforced in such a banhammer-ish kind of way, but the policy is a good deterrent to people who show up to tailgate with no intention of going to the game, and also gets butts in seats for gametime.

I don't have a problem with people showing up just to tailgate. Happens all around the country. I do have a problem with people who have tix to the game tailgating while the game is going on.

Lame don't blame the fans for taking there time when its 90 and there playing stone whatever. I am paying to have a good time. If I have tickets and can show them me being outside is the same as being inside. Uconn not playing like a high school team would get more butts in the seats for gametime. If anything they should encourage that more since seeing uconn play makes people not want to show up.

they should really do some sort of half hour/fifteen minute warning to pack it in. The speakers in the stadium seem to carry all the way over to all the blue lots at least.

If you don't like the rules, don't buy the tickets. Your alcohol intake today, I'm quite sure, has carried over to this post. Watch a few "big time" programs and see what the stands look like at kick off.

If you were sober enough to watch the UL vs UM game the other night, you saw a big time fan base that were in their seats and not whining about not being able to get drunk in the parking lot.

CT is loaded with people with nazi, socialist mentalities. Tailgating limited to 4 hrs before a game = small time policies.

Actually CT is loaded with people who whine about things they have no control over. It's a north east kinda thing.

that's because the football experience is run on the cheap, they don't want to pay security/parking attendents/etc for anymore time than they have to.

It has nothing to do with all the drunks inside the stadium. Nothing I tell you.

LOL comparing this game to the UL UM game is a bit much.. I think you had a couple nippers before and after the game yourself. This was stone something in 90 degreee temps where we almost lost. Forcing people to go inside when they are having a good time outside is no point. Its not like you can say you are going to miss a good game...or a uconn win for that matter. Have to enjoy what you can or else there will be less and less and less people showing

If the OP wants to stay outside for the first quarter, that's his prerogative, he bought the ticket he can do as he pleases. For the life of me I'll never understand people who tell other people how to be fans.

I've been to plenty of SEC games and sometimes I'm in the seats at kickoff others I'm not, I've never been hassled to go inside. It's a rule at UCONN, but it's a misguided one.

Or the parking lots are too big and wide spread to cover adequately with security (too cheap to cover?) and they don't want a bunch of people wandering around potentially making off with other people's stuff. How many of us have lost items because we had the audacity to be in the stadium for the whole game? My party has lost a table, a small grill, and a cooler over the years. That is why the deal is go in, or leave. There are likely layers of liability as well. In the lot, there is no limit to what you consume, at least if they get you in the stadium, they have shut off points.

The 30 minute rule? I could do without and the way they went about it with the OP is wrong, but asking or expecting people to be in the stadium at or around kick off? I can understand from an image point of view if nothing else.

Maybe we tell others how to be fans because if we want to get into the P5 we need to become a "football" school. Half empty stadiums at kick off is G5 kinda football.

Love how people make excuses for "tepid" football fans.

Not defending the policy - just sharing it.

"Tailgating is NOT permitted 30 minutes prior to event beginning. Anyone in the parking lots 30 minutes prior to event beginning must either enter the Stadium or leave the property."
This is such BS. People pay for the ticket and donate if they're in the blue lot. As for there "would be no tailgate if not for the game", keep that attitude up and soon there will be no fans at the game. UConn just doesn't get it.

The tailgate nazis will have nothing to do with the empty seats at the game. The people who have a problem with them are not there for the game.

The product on the field is what will dictate what the crowd looks like.

I'm surprised you are sticking up for the party first crowd.

Art, I don't tailgate myself. I go for the game. Pull into the parking lot, about 45 min to an hour before the game and last week notwithstanding I'm always in my seat before kickoff. But if someone who buys a ticket and parking pass wants to tailgate a little longer they shouldn't be harrassed. That is my opinion only.

Hey Mikey....if you have been going to games for the last 12 years, which I'm guessing you haven't, you'd know that getting people into their seats for kick off, has been a problem. Even the Michigan game was not full for kick off.

The SEC plays in this heat every year and they don't seem to have a problem filling up early.

People who make excuses, do just that....make excuses. Go find a bar or a keg party.
