ATLANTA, Ga. – Six Huskies are among the names of the Naismith Top 50 women in consideration for the 2018 Naismith Player of the Year Trophy, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday.

Seniors Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ontario) and Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.), juniors Napheesa Collier (O’Fallon, Missouri), Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Azura Stevens (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Crystal Dangerfield (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) represent UConn on the list of 50 hopefuls.

Connecticut, which has won more Citizen Naismith Trophies (10) than any other school, leads the Watch List with six players, followed by Notre Dame with four candidates. Breanna Stewart was the most recent Husky recipient in 2016 and also took home the honor in 2014 and 15. She is the third Husky to win the award in multiple seasons, joining Maya Moore (2009, 2011) and Diana Taurasi (2003, 2004).

The six, all averaging double-figure point totals, contribute largely to the top-ranked Huskies 6-0 start and +28.0 scoring margin this season.

ACC leads the way with 10 nominees, SEC second with 9 although Wilson is the only one from defending champ South Carolina.

Big Ten - 8
Pac 12 - 7
Big 12 - 6
AAC - 7 (Laksa only one not UConn)

Big East, Atlantic 10, Southern Conference one each.

No big surprise, the power conferences, plus UConn, dominate.

The only players on the list outside UConn and the P5 are:
Laksa of USF
Blockton of Marquette
Kemph of St. Louis,
Tarter of ETSU.

Do you have to be on the initial list to be on the mid-season list? If not, watch for the name Lauren Cox to appear on the next list. Her improvement this season is astounding.

Looking at the Scoring numbers for Morgan Williams she doesn't look like one of the top players in the nations, but she does have 43 assist and only 6 TO's on the season.

A lot of these selections are based on reputation from previous year(s). Mabrey's numbers aren't great so far this year either.

it would have to be :) .
seriously, came out of high school with all that potential and delighted that she's made the adjustment.
