>>Head coach Margaret Rodriguez and the women's soccer team has announced the signing of Jessica Mazo, the 2018 High School Girls' National Player of the Year.

Jess is one of those players that don't come around too often, said Rodriguez. "She is gifted in every aspect of her game. She is a center-mid that can attack on the dribble, play a final pass, and can finish. She is relentless on both sides of the ball in the midfield and is a force to be reckoned with. Jess is a class act on the field and off and we cannot wait to see her to impact our program next fall." <<

That's a badly needed good start to the recruiting season. Hopefully it is the start of a big transfusion of talented recruits, something the women's soccer team really needs at this point. The return of Vivien Beil and Kess Elmore from the year long injury list will hopefully provide some help to the offense as well.

Great news. Can only hope this is the start of a trend to bring the program back to national relevance. Like the fact we were able to sign her coming off such a bad year. Hopefully this means Maggie and the new stadium will provide some recruiting juice.

Dom Amore: Jessica Mazo bringing must-see talent to UConn women’s soccer - Hartford Courant

>Mazo told UConn more than two years ago that she was coming, so long as Rodriguez, then the top assistant, ascended to head coach when Len Tsantiris retired. Promises kept all around, Mazo signed her National Letter of Intent last week and promises to bring her dynamic, all-around game to Storrs, where the Huskies just suffered through a rare losing season, going 4-14-0.

“When I first committed, UConn was still ranked,” Mazo says, “but now it’s something that I’ve kind of set for myself — to raise their level again.”<

This story from the UConn Blog indicates that UConn has another high school All American arriving in 2020, Chloe Landers, currently a junior from Glastonbury. Her position is defense, which was a big weakness for UConn this past season.
