Our shooting was pretty awful to start. Not hitting outside shots and Butler packed it in on D and make the inside crowded.
Announcers keep talking about how well we're doing on the offensive glass. Unfortunately, that also means we're getting a lot of opportunities by missing way too many shots.
Got things rolling a little better when Clingan and JoeyC came in, and started to slowly build a reasonably comfortable lead.
WOW. Hawkins made a GREAT block and somehow got called for a foul when Ali-Ali-Oxenfree stuck his hand into Hawk's armpit after the shot. Contact was after the shooting motion had ended, and was initiated by the offensive player. That's a horrible call.
Matta jawing at ref at the end of half seems to have had the desired effect, as the refs called an awful lot of stuff against UConn early in the 2nd half. We actually ended up shooting 4 foul shots to Butler's 13 .
At 13:37 left, we had a 10 point lead. And that's when the all around sloppy play manifested itself. At 9:48 it was down to a 4 point game. Enter Adama. Less than 15 seconds later, it's a 7 point game, and the momentum has swung back where it belongs. Sanogo scored almost half of his 27 points in a 7 minute span in the 2nd half.
Bates has a nice midrange jumper from inside the foul line.
Sanogo played his best game so-far this season. Clingan wasn't playing poorly (2 of 2 from the floor, 8 boards, a dime and a block in 9 minutes), but he was never going to get a lot of work with Adama playing like he was. 27 points, 14 boards (7 & 7), 3 dimes, a steal and only 2 TOs. As much as he had the ball in his hands against double and triple team D, 2 TOs is pretty stout. And he's much quicker and more mobile than last year's Adama.
Alleyene was 3 of 5 from deep. He's coming into his own.
The dimes! We had more assists than Butler had field goals.
Another 20+ point win, but somehow, it seemed a little anticlimatic after the long, frustrating stretch between games.
