“Going into the late signing period, a critical need for us is going to be a toughness, a self-confidence, a swagger,” he said. “Obviously, we’re going to be looking for basketball-related things. But we do need more tough-minded wolves … that will become Huskies.”

Clearly not done in 2020.

I was looking at the recruiting rankings for the Freshmen and just signed kids. So that’d be Jackson, Brown, Akok, Bouknight, Springs and Gaffney. Add Cole to that group that DH has brought in. I am pretty pumped for what Hurley is doing with the talent overhaul. I really can’t wait until he has a roster of entirely his kids. UConn will eventually have speed, size, athleticism and hunger to win. I know it is frustrating to watch and wait but it’s happening. Nothing against the kids playing now because they are trying their best but overall the roster just needs more. Looking forward to seeing the season play out and who else signs in the spring. It’s been a rough last few years but enjoy the ride back up!

-Seth Towns would be the ideal grad transfer
-Adama Sanogo would be a great reclass, fantastic rebounder
-Cam is a pipe dream but would obviously be our #1 choice
-Extra ball handler would be nice as well as a knockdown shooter

We'll be 2 deep at every position with guys who have at least 2 years remaining except at center (this is assuming Gilbert leaves).

20-21 Depth Chart
Cole - Gaffney
Bouknight - Adams
Polley (Sr) - Wilson - Jackson
Akok - Springs
Carlton (Sr) - Whaley (Sr) - Javonte Brown Ferguson

I don't know that we'd be able to land another center unless they're a major project with Javonte Brown Ferguson coming in this class, though. I think having Adams in the program is going to be a positive, but we'll likely need to recruit over him, but that may not be possible this late in the cycle, and a grad transfer won't want to back up Bouknight. I think a beefy rebounding 4/5 grad transfer makes the most sense since Springs and Javonte Brown Ferguson will still be freshman and Akok doesn't have any beef. That or a shooting 2/3 grad transfer specialist.

Cardwell?
No. Either him or Javonte Brown Ferguson. Been out on him since his phantom visit when he was here but wasn’t.
I want Cam Thomas, Big Cliff, a talented reclass, or high impact grad transfer.

Need at least 1 from that list.
Cam cancelled his visit here. L$U lean. Cliff still favoring UK but if Jackson commits there we’ve got a shot.

The best compliment I ever heard about Calhoun was “ he can beat me with his players, he can beat me with my players.”
First time I heard that it was by Shug Jordan about Bear Bryant with a little more southern colloquialism.
"He can be you with his'n and he can beat you with your'n"

Great analogy and metaphor. We believe Coach; go get them!!!
Yeah, I love the wild animal that becomes disciplined aspect. Quite a turn of phrase.

Khalid El-Amin is the guy most associate with bringing swagger to the program. His bravado helped vault UConn from final four wannabe to national champions.
But long before that Calhoun had to instill toughness, the refuse to take crap attitude that we didn’t have and that was allowing the BEast upper echelon to own the huskies. Lyman DePriest was a key player that brought the toughness. Lyman was not going to let anyone punk him. A physical statement needed to be made and he was the guy. I remember one play in particular where I think a Pitt player was all over DePriest near halfcourt and Lyman simply turned and delivered a sharp elbow. Foul on Lyman, but message received, UConn was NOT backing down any more. Next year’s huskies need a Lyman.

Of the tough players we have had Lyman and Jake are the toughest. They would be co captains of the tough team. Toughest players that played for the toughest coach. You youngsters should go on UConngames.com and check out those days.

3&D guy would be top of my list. Shooting taken care of and added value on defensive end.

I hear you on beef, but I want Springs and Javonte to get that experience. Less minutes would hurt there.

I think Jackson will be starting over Polley.

Langevine is a good bruiser/rebounder. Dowtin is a Sr too. Fatts is a junior but who knows how his academics are... interested in seeing if DH taps into his last 2 recruiting classes at URI if we go the grad transfer route

isaiah jackson announces today at 2:30. if he picks UK i'll keep hope alive for Cliff.

when i hear "toughness, self-confidence, swagger" i naturally think of a grown man grad transfer like shonn miller, not another 16 year old reclass like Javonte Brown Ferguson

He's not gonna tap any URI guys. He's said as much. He's good friends with the current HC (his old Associate HC). Adams really wanted to stay with Hurley, that's why he switched.

We need a dude who scores at will. Obviously not an easy ask, but we have far too many guys this year (and years past) that just can't create their own shot easily. Really hoping Cam, or someone very similar, falls in our lap in the spring.

We need "tough" players like Fatts who make winning plays. Right now Akok is our most effective player relative to taking and making high percentage shots. He rebounds within and outside of his sphere, blocks and alters at a high rate, and plays to win with effortless natural ability.

Khalid brought looseness to the team. He had a moxie personality plus the leadership goods that JC accepted with the result being the team reflected him. I remember this forum being divided with the players (usually Rip and KFree) bowing to each other after a dunk. That bowing and swagger did not happen the prior year.

Contrast that to Okafer who was quietly stoic. The players on his team respected him and without the coaches pushing them followed his incredible routine of discipline (eating, studying, body conditioning and practice).

There was Caron who also was the most respected player on his team. He helped by supporting his players with consolation and encouragement that negated some of the pressure of an over demanding coach.

You had Kemba whose charisma and positive personality inspired the puppies to believe in themselves and want to go through walls for him. He led by example and elevated them with his smile.

And then you had Bazz who knew he didn't have Kemba's personality but understood the importance UConn men's bb was to the university and fans. He learned from Kemba the value of team play and the importance of other players in getting wins.

Thankfully we are getting Bouk back 1 game from now because he can do just that.

And next year, Jackson will get to the rim at will, even if he can't it that much.

I like that Hurley landed two main targets in early period. No need to scramble. He’s doing well recruiting.

As fans,so nice to be able to relax over the course of the season, knowing we're already taken care of.. was so lame having to stress about top 200 kiss in April.

And we know Hurley's not done, which is just a bonus.
