Hurley on Pat McAfee show on ESPN today

Post was too late. Maybe there's a replay online somewhere. All of his Hurley's previous appearances on the show are online so I'll try to look later today or tomorrow for it to post here.

Just saw a quote from the interview in which mcAfee asked him how do you handle the "elephant in the room" about the possibility of winning three national championships in a row. Hurley said at Connecticut our expectation is to win every championship every year. Essentially saying there's no point in running from it. I think he said they have five potential championships they can win this year.

Has there been a coach in the history of college hoops that takes as many interviews as Dan Hurley? It feels like new content almost daily. Lots of the info at this point is fairly recycled but it seems that there are always 1-2 new nuggets.

I think in one of these many interviews I recall he stated he saw there was a void as the face of the sport and has embraced it. He's opportunistic and ambitious enough to strike while the iron is hot.

Hurley has been fantastic in this regard as this promotes the UConn Basketball brand. Like auror said in the post above, the best time to do this when the iron is hot, in other words when UConn has won back-to-back championships and all eyes are on UConn.

The greatest ever! About 2 1/2 seasons ago, wasn't he sort of on the hot seat? Again, outside of the northeast, no one is tuning in to Uconn basketball.

At this point I feel like I could answer the questions for Hurley. Nice that Darius Butler was there and they had a nice "UCOONNN," -- "HUSSSKIES" exchange.

As an aside, why do people like McAfee? I think I read that ESPN signed him to a $5 million annual contract. For what? Why?
I don't watch him or watch ESPN anymore outside of games but the times I've watched him interview people the interviews are great and he seems to have a fun personality. Why do people like Stephen A. Smith?

McAfee makes a lot more than $5 million annually and Stephen A. makes more than him or anyone else on ESPN.

Middle America, same crowd that goes bananas for college football. Hard to relate to it from the NE.
He has had to scale way back from the podcast that made him famous. I read a story about how the long time exec’s at ESPN were trying to kill the deal.

But he was just to big a deal with too many followers to not pay him to keep him from spending three hours a day whooping them in ratings and talking sh##t about the network or the established traditional sports outlets.

Remember when the networks went heavy on the disclaimers when Morton Downey was popular…..it is that way on this show almost on the return from every commercial break. He is beeped out so much that most times you lose the whole point or even subject he is discussing.

But when people click on your schtick millions of times and you develop leverage. I think it is hilarious that ESPN was manipulated into having to keep his show on air after their plan was to give it a shot and dump it. Oops that plan backfired. I never paid attention to him until he and ESPN started going at it and found his side of the argument easier to side with than ESPN.

Just looked it up. $85 million over 5 years. Wow. Especially after ESPN laid off so many on air personalities.

Seems like a nice guy but I just don't get it. Every time I tune in to ESPN around midday I watch for a few minutes and turn it off.

He’s not really my style but he is entertaining. He also has an annoying rat face that I simply can’t get over, but that’s likely just a “me” problem.

I think he is from West Virginia….maybe he only went there for college……but when you described his face and what it looked liked….unfortunately my warped mind started hearing banjos………
