Presumably they couldn't get signoff from Werner ladders to use their product/colors - but then yes why not make it blue or black.
Other funny/weird choices in descending order:
1. "Danny Hurley"
2. They made his UConn cap a cheapo one with plastic size adjustments
3. The National Championship trophy replica - decent to replace final four logo with a Husky

Nope he was wearing that at the regional finals (hence the Regional Champions shirt) not the finals.
I understand the confusion though because when one googles UConn cutting down the nets soooo many pictures pop up!

You are right, or more specifically the face better matches the action if Dan were holding a poopy diaper instead of the net.

They should have made it with his head sticking up from inside the rim so that you can rattle it around in there before it drops thru like a Hawkins' 3.
