I think this is a good choice. He was a very solid coordinator while he had the jobHis approach was a little different from Brown's but his results were generally solid.

I have the feeling that P is going to have a big hand in the D this year. He knows this is a make or break year and D is his expertise. That's probably why he hasn't gone outside his current staff for this hire.

I hope you are right as Hank will not let him screw up the D. We have not been bad on that side of the ball since he has been here (01). This also helps to keep him away from the O and interfering with TJ and what needs to be done....

The question I have is:

Don Brown got the ball rolling in the direction of a 3-4. PP and Hughes have historically favored a 4-3 Under. However, the recruiting seems to be targeting bigger D linemen and outside line backers, leading me to believe that the transition to the 3-4 is still moving forward. But does anyone on the coaching staff have any extensive experience with the 3-4?

P usually seems to let his coordinators do their things and he advises or suggests things. For instance I recall for the Louisville game he wanted to go over pass coverages with brown during the week off.

I don't think the changes are going to be as much 3-4 vs 4-3 but increasing the amount of zone coverage or cover-2 we will play. Din briwn was really giod at changin the way we blitZed and dusguising the pass rusher Hopefully we will continue I see some if these blitz packages we have seen.

My hope is that the defense is somewhere in the middle of a Don Brown and Edsall era D. Edsall never blitzed, Brown always blitzed and was horrible at adjusting.
