Enjoyed looking at some random fan threads and message boards and things for reactions to the Elite Eight finish from impartial sources. Other than North Carolina, it is amazing how many fan bases were genuinely torn. Used to be hatred for Duke unified the country - but not any more. The Kansases and Kentuckys and Indianas hate us, hate our fan base, hate Hurley, wanted both teams to lose and don’t want to see us win No. 7 (or 3 in 4).

In 1999, we were the darlings of the nation by taking down the evil empire. Now we’re also an evil empire.

Brings a tear to my eye.

I also think there's a certain population where our success has beaten them into submission. Even some of the PC board is like "As much as I hate them, I can't believe what they've been able to do" type stuff.
Yeah a lot of Cuse board members temper the anger by saying “they’re in another league than us” etc

The amount of hate Danny Hurley receives all over the Social Media world is inexplicable. So much hate. Way before this E8 game. Its absolutely crazy.

It feels like nowadays the average person has no respect for greatness and for those that excel in their craft. (I see the same hatred for LeBron James, Novak Djokovic, Juan Soto, and other high performing athletes)

Like sure. You can hope Danny loses/ goes down. But what I see online goes way beyond that.

When other fan bases depend on you to stop dook.

Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, all blue blood brothers that typically hate on us, thank us for stopping dook.

When we stopped Kentucky I'm 14, many other fans thanked us as well.

They know we're one of the few teams capable of stopping another blue blood from advancing

Kind of crazy, but we are 6-0 in our last six NCAA matchups with Kentucky and Duke (since 1999).

One of the Kentucky wins in 2006, we were a 1 and they were an 8 - with Rajon Rondo and Patrick Sparks, so we were supposed to win, but the other five times, they smelled titles.

It is interesting. Duke message boards complaining about refs and playing 8 on 5, Cuse boards rooting for Duke over UConn strictly based on hatred levels, dogs and cats living together!
I saw Duke fans complaining about the officiating. Talk about a fan base they has no self awareness. Cam Boozer literally elbowed and ran over Mullins, with no call, and they got 2 points out of it. If not for the miracle play at the end, that could have been the difference in the game. And you want to complain about the officiating?

That wasn’t a foul. It was assault and battery. I’m literally shocked at the hatred online with this especially the lies about the ref and Hurley. Ratface had a lot of haters but Hurley is gaining on him.

I'll never care that other fan bases hate us. Screw 'em. Connecticut's paid its dues by losing pro sports teams and constantly having its flagship state university blackballed from power conferences. UConn Basketball is all we have for sports in this state that's truly big time on its level.

I have a call with external counsel in an hour -- he's a Duke law school grad and huge hoops fan. Pretty sure he flew in from Mexico to DC this weekend.

This is going to be fun . . .

Duke law, he’s probably an idiot.

1) Somehow, I ended up on a Duke FB page, and they legitimately think they get jobbed by the officials. People were listing out stats and comparing them to other teams. Bizarro world.

2) It seems that some of our closest current/former rivals (PC, Cuse) simply think we are the luckiest team ever and have gotten cake draws, etc. And I just don't get it. We've won titles as a 1 (2x), 2, 3, 4, and 7. The 7 we beat Nova, Mich St., Iowa St. and Florida so I'd say we more than earned that one. Duke for sure "choked" to an extent. But we also played great D and outscored them by 16 in the 2nd half.

3) Some schools, while hating Hurley and thinking he's a psychopath, think that he's one of the best coaching minds ever. BBN, in particular, thinks that, begrudgingly, we are now the standard.

So I'll say we've more than arrived on the national stage.

Did anyone see PTI on Monday? Tony seemed to have never seen Alex Karaban’s name before. The guy has won two titles! I know college basketball is a little more niche than the NFL or whatever, but you talk about sports for a living. This isn’t lacrosse

He barely watches any sports and he won't watch anything past 7 pm.

I haven't watched the show in a long time but it came up on Instagram. They talked about Duke the whole segment. And Fred Brown.

I used to really like the show, but when you're references are 40 years old it might be time to move on.

UConn still auto-corrects to Yukon on my phone, though. It's been long enough for that to change.
OT but have your tried going into autocorrect settings and setting Yukon to autocorrect to UConn.

I don’t need to on mine, seems to have learned UConn and how to properly capitalize it even when I type in lowercase, but worth a shot. UConn UConn UConn

Danny is one of those guys that if he's your coach, you love him and if he's anyone else's, you hate them. Cam is the same as a player.

Up until this year I don’t think a lot of mainstream media watched college basketball.

When they watch it’s because they want to see future stars. This year had a lot of them to check out in comparison to the past few years.

At least on the men’s side, it feels like most UConn fans have a genuine connection to the school - whether as alumni, through family, or by living in the state. It’s wild how many Duke fans seem to have no real ties to the university. Wonder what accounts for it? We've been similarly successful in the same period. ESPN brainwashing?

If both men and women win the NC again , the hatred level will be raised another level. Get ready .
And the UConn fandom will reach entirely new levels of arrogant and spoiled.

Heck, this men's team wins, we are going to move to insufferable and spoiled.

At Kornheiser's age it's an upset when he can remember his own name.
