I wonder who Las Vegas has as the odds on favorite this year?

Wow, Auburn runner-up three years in a row against three different coaches. Enough to make you want to crawl into a hole and apparently they did.

Thought I was going to catch you out - an eighth is an active D1 coach, but as an assistant at Vanderbilt (Carolyn Peck) but you covered yourself by saying active head coaches.

Technically, Theresa Grentz counts. You didn't say NCAA national championship - and you can ask CD if she thinks that was a "NC".

Yes Joe Ciampi was the coach.

I forgot Tara :( in my defense I was 8-10 when she won hers. Somehow remembered Sylvia though ;)

Great post! What really catches my eye is that UCONN has never been the runner up. 11-0 in championship games is one the most amazing stats in sports. is there any team or coach that has a comparable record?

This reminds me that, but for Geno and UConn, Muffet would have at least 4 and possibly 5 national championships and be considered one the best WBB coaches ever. That's got to be a tough thing to warp your mind around.

Cool... I said 7 :)

It would be nice to see Muffett keep her number at 1 for a long long time. I would rather see Brenda move to 2 before Muffet

Another amazing stat: since the women went to 64, how many teams have reached theFF!!! Works also for the men, some so-called powers in B5 conferences have NEVER made it to the FF.

2 or 3 championships ago I recall an announcer "on the desk" with Kara saying Geno has more national championship rings than all other active WCBB Div. I coaches combined. Can't recall if it was Reese.

I feel just the opposite. Yet the real problem as I see it is Muffet is a better coach.

I always forget that Hatchell won a NC as well.
She beat Uconn in 1994 in the E8. Huskies finished 30-3 that year. I am pretty sure they only played 27 reg. season games that year.

It does say NCAA table but you are right CD has 12 and Geno 11 NCs.

If not for Geno, Pat would have had 11 or 12.

I don't think there is any question about it. I see it in recruiting too. Brenda just has this thing for medium slow medium bigs that hangs her team up.

During the interegnum (between Taurasi and Maya) we had a dropoff in talent, otherwise we would have picked off a couple more. Additionally the EDD affair cost us maybe 2 more. Being greedy that puts us above 15.:):):)
