There has been alot of talk Stanfords win was againest a Baylor team without Simms their point guard. Well UConn just won by 31 without their AA guard Bria Hartley. I think that sez somethin. Pretty damm good team huh. UConn is number 1 and everybody will chase them. Stop and think about Breanna on the bench in foul trouble. How much better is Stef with another big in the lineup. This UConn is one heck of a machine... and dont let anybody tell you theyre not. Not a bad job by Geno and CD either.

I just finished watching the game on DVR (and I apologise in advance for being too lazy to attend, for sitting in my easy chair and for sipping a pretty tasty Pinot) and I came away with some thoughts.

1. Stephanie Dolson is much better than I thought she would ever be. Nice to see she could get in such great shape without losing too much of her biggest ass et.
2. The team is really going to miss Faris, I don't care how well the freshman play.
3. UConn dodged a bullet with Bone. Tonight she was owned by Dolson.
4. Stokes had a great game on defense.
5. Tuck = Jones??
6. Kara Lawson is now officially a hottie. Peck is a drone.

FWIW, I think Geno said something today about the 3 freshmen playing poorly. Getting Bria back will be a huge buffer, but it's going to be rare when Bree, Moriah and Morgan all struggle in the same game. How good is this team, or how good can they be? Well, without their All American starting guard, and with their 3 freshmen having average games, they still blew out a legit top 20 team by 30+.

UConn dodged a bullet with Bone?????????????????? I personally think Bone is a little like Paris and that girl from Ohio State (whose name escapes me) who whenever she faced top flight teams with really active defenses was anything but special. Bone dodges a bullet whenever she goes against smaller, weaker teams that don't stress defense and aren't active defensively.

I think VTCWB's point was that UConn dodged a bullet when Bone did not commit to UConn after having been recruited hard by Geno and CD.

If one was to give a number that would describe UConn's play today as against their mid-season norm against top-20 teams, it would be 70 at most (Steff aside).

I anticipate a smoothness and efficiency from this group that will harken back to the best teams of the Knicks and Celtics from the late 50's to the 70's.

Geno knows this and is preparing the world for a demonstration of woman's play heretofore unseen.

One thing to recognize from this aTm team yesterday and what UConn did on the freshmen's first road trip is that aTm played the #s 8 and 9 teams to within a total of 7 points in their previous two games. A 30 point win by UConn is indeed a concern for the rest of WCBB.

Speaking of TAMU, I know we will be focused on the top of the rankings when they come out, but TAMU deserves to stay in the top 25. I wonder if any team has ever been 0-3 and remained ranked.

Its really hard to beleive that this team is going to get better over the next couple of months. I can only imagine where we will be when Bria gets back and when the freshman have 10 games under their belt. This is going to be crazy good. There was alot of talk yesterday about TAMs 7 freshman. Well UConn has 3 freshman, and 3 Sophs and KML and Breanna are scoring machines.

She's exactly who I thought she'd be (regards to Dallas). Yea, she is getting to where I thought she would be when I saw her in the McD's AA game a few years back. Knew she was gonna be a real, real good one.

5. Tuck = Jones??
Williams (Raymond). imo.

6. Kara Lawson is now officially a hottie.
She looks nice. Hottie? I wouldn't go that far. But whatever rocks your boat.

I used the exact same phrase during the game yesterday. Bone's effort simply would not cut it at UConn. She would either have shaped up or shipped out.

" UConn dodged a bullet with Bone. Tonight she was owned by Dolson."

And if she had come to UConn and pulled a stunt like the one that got her the technical, her butt would have ridden the pine for a loooonnng time. She would have been in CD's Chateau bow-wow for eons.

4. Stokes had a great game on defense.
What I like is her ability to block shots and then get control of the ball. Swatting blocks into the 10th row is nice for the highlight reel, but Kiah's method is infinitely more valuable to the team.

I watched Dolson lumber up and down the floor for a year and a half. Until the tail end of last year I thought she had really underperformed, particulary on defense. By the end of the BE tournament I was starting to become a believer.

Williams (Raymond). imo.
I can buy that.

All things are relative. My reference point was Lawson the UT player vs Lawson the studio announcer.

You can see how fine tuned this team is. They do almost everything the way Geno wants it done. They are where theyre suppose to be, executing which is a direct result of the 27 assists. Its not like theyre looking for a go to scorer, they can all score, its pass, move to where your suppose to be and if your open shoot it. Yesterday Stef was carrying us in the first half, then in the second half, it was eveybody else. Its kinda like a leak. you plug one hole and the others just start popping. There are way to many options on this team and really no way to stop them. Theyre too good to play one on one and if you double somebody somebody else kills you. The big build up to the big games like Purdue, Maryland, Penn St, ND, Duke and Baylor may seem to be an after thought when Bria comes back and the team improves. Its really unbeleivable when you think about it. There is no let up.

This team is going to be good. However, at times yesterday, offense didn't look smooth.

I thought that at times, they looked like they lack that one go to player. Thankfully Dolson dominated.

Other than KML and Dolson, their only consistent scoring is coming from three freshman. Doty and Faris are notorious for their effort and impacts, however, offensively, they don't produce gaudy numbers. That being said, they both look to be shooting better in the early season.

I am intrigued to watch how the freshman progress and learn the offense (looked lost at times). Also, the addition of Hartley will add the player who can create off the dribble and make big shots.

When all of the pieces come together, this team will be scary. Still some work to do.

If that is their worst performance of the season, I am really excited for what is to come.
