In a post-NC article on ESPN that touches on Geno and Pat's renewed respect for each other, she states:

"But that likely won't ever be the case with Tennessee and UConn fans, who can't stand each other. Next year's Final Four is in Nashville, Tenn., and you can bet Lady Vols devotees would rather see Earth colonized by rabid aliens who ban country music than see Auriemma win a ninth title on Tennessee soil."

Oh, c'mon, can't be that bad nowadays. I know if I was driving my tractor across the tater field and saw a trussed up Vol fan in my path, I'd at least slow down a tad. Don't think a Volite would do that for a Husky fan though.

No. 9 could be as sweet as tupelo honey slathered all over a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

odd given I have just read a congratulatory thread started by a TVol fan. Hate each other? I would say in many instances this is not the case. She needs to stop reading the Summitt

If you mean lcjeff, you're talking about someone who is a self-confessed outcast from Rocky Top land and whose views about UConn hardly jive with 99.9% of the hard core Vol fandom, which is whom Mechelle is referring to.

No, she got it right -- if April rolls around next year and UConn is the big favorite in the NC game, I wouldn't be surprised if some type of statewide power failure forces the game to be moved to Louisville.

Back in the day...I believe that Uconn Tenn fans had a mutual respect for each other and for the womens game in general. I would like to think that this still remains true in spite of all the rumors to the contrary. I believe fans are and should be behind their respective teams all the way, it should not extend to disrespecting any other fan. Just sayin'.

I was hoping the Tennessee entry in the list of The 50 Fattiest Foods in the States would be a sweet item, to fit with your theme, but it isn't so this is just an OT post which may interest some. I did sample the Louisiana entry, but I've never had the Connecticut entry.

Now's not really the time, but maybe later this summer when we are searching for things to talk about, we could find out who has tried the most items.

Due to my Brother in Laws wedding, I was unable to attend N.O. as I had hoped. However, I will be making the 5 hour drive next year to see #9!

Dobbs - jeff is outcast from the Summitt - the TVOL fan board on Scout that spews so much orange tinted vitriolic hatred of "Gino" and "UCheat" that one feels the need to shower after reading the board.

Should Geno & the team win their 9th N.C. in Tenn., do you think the 'moonshine' will be flowing?

Noble sentiment, and definitely is pretty much the case with the Stanford, Duke, Baylor, and a few other groups of fans that have visited the BY over the years, and perhaps you could say the same for a handful of UTenn fans who occasionally shared a comment here. But spending an hour on the Summitt after a big UConn win is like being waterboarded in a Great Smoky Mountain outhouse for a week. Leaves some big impressions.

But maybe that will all change now that Pat is retired. Ummm, no.

Right, but saying that to stop reading the Summitt will give you a clearer understanding of the Vol fan is very dubious. Granted, not all are as extreme as the most deeply concussed types who spew endlessly on the Summitt, but don't think that the Orange crushed have lost their deep antipathy toward Geno and UConn. There are a number of forums and news sources down there that say very otherwise. UConn admin needs to start putting together the security team for next April.

They could legalize single game betting, that would end it ;)

I think that's still generally true. I've had good experiences with 100% of LV fans I've met in person, and that's quite a few. It's only a handful of online fans who earned a reputation for vileness. Give them some credit though, for their decision to wall themselves off from the rest of the world. Their decision to go to a pay board was great, as far as I'm concerned.

There is a public fan site for the UTenn women. If anyone thinks that the bile spewed by Vol fans has lessened - feel free to stop by. Be sure to read the threads Geno the Bozo and UGH!. You may want to wear a hazmat suit.

Personally, I find their crap funny as hell. It certainly reinforces the stereotype of the typical UTenn fan.

We have a few very nice fans from TN who visit this site and add value to the conversation, and I think we have our mods to thank for making this site a civilized one for any fan of any team to visit.
I used to read the TN site from time to time when it was free, and I would say the civility on that site was stretched even among TN fans, let alone for any visitors. Fan sites are generally not a good indication of the 'average fan' and I do think there was some significantly good interaction between the TN and Uconn fans, but the 'discourse' became as strained as the relationship between Geno and Pat.
All you have to do is visit any ESPN 'conversation' site to see the general level of discussion and civility among the great world of online forum contributors - ugly!

the "Ugh" thread wasn't so by by Summitt standards. True, there were one or two posters that were over the top (and a new, vile, albeit very funny name for Geno was unveiled for me at least), but the majority of this thread was very civil in nature. The naysayers certainly toned it down after the Tennessee loss to Louisville.

It is that bad. Their hatred for Geno specifically hasn't waned a single bit. Even Geno's great comments about Pat were blasted as Geno being all about himself for achieving records while with Pat it was all about the team. She's the epitome of class, and he's a foul mouthed cheat. I'm not kidding one bit either. Even their mod jumps on the bandwagon when they talk about possibly renewing the series.

and I read Geno the Bozo - again, a civil thread by Summitt standards with a large drift towards nasty midway including a rehash of what never was, and a really funny post about how sweet [sic] the TVols team is on court...and then civil again. Seriously, these threads are NOTHING compared to the Summitt - not even close. You know that you cannot - simply cannot say anything positive about UConn on a Summitt thread without being attacked. And, I agree with Eric that even the moderators fan the flames of dislike rather than calm things down.

I'm not sure if Geno would savor beating Tennessee in their home state to break Pat Summitt's record, but I sure would!

It would be nice to win #9 in their home state (it would be nice in any state really), but I still don't want to ever play TN again.

ES, have you no pity? The Vol sites have gotten to be like a leper colony that's facing many more visitations of the bubonic plague ahead. They need compassion and maybe a few jugs of hemlock to get them in the proper state of existence.

Hoping for a UConn vs. UTenn semifinal next year so that the Huskies can take the lead over the Vols in 5th round games. Our 4-0 edge in finals will never be overcome.
