It was a year ago today that Daniels went 25 and 10 against the #7 team in an epic 2OT game. That's the Daniels we I thought we'd see some more of this year. What happened? IIRC, DD was taking and making more of those mid-range jumpers back them. Now it seems he's either bombing from 3 or throwing up a runner of some sort with poor technique. I'd like to see him go back to what worked last year.

Watch him on offense. He stands around the perimeter waiting to take a long jump shot. Waiting is the key word. He's not in position for putbacks on missed shots, not moving around to be in the flow and simply standing around dependent on his guards.

When he does get the ball closer to the basket he's hell bent on Selvie-ing to the basket, head down with one intent which is too shoot. That's even if double or triple teamed. Now this could be because the guards aren't getting him the ball when he wants it, and is somewhat frustrated. I mean his game is dependent on them.

If he can find a way to get more involved in the offense, move around, draw some fouls, etc... I think his confidence and production will rise. Right now it seems he sees himself as a jump shooter (long range at that) only, waiting to hit the 3 point shot.

23 and 11 @ memphis doesn't count? players go throught slumps. He is jump shooter, with length to play good d. He's not a post presence

DD sucess with the 3 has changed his mentality.
He thinks he is an NBA 3 .
His best route to becoming an NBA 3 is by increasing his Physical presence as a 4.
The knock on him is his lack of assertiveness and phyicality .

He has natural rebounding ability and quickness .Using these tools he has to be determined that his points will come from Offensive Boards and short jumpers.
He is thin but his lenght is amazing.
When he plays as a 4th guard it really doesn't help the team.
If he wants to play the 3 put NG or Facey at the 4 .
We need a 4 who isn't afraid to get bloody.
I have been his biggest fan and actually think he has the greatest potential of anyone on the team. To waste those attributes would be tragic.

DeAndre Daniels success is predicated on one thing, his commitment to get better. This is completely on him. He has not done a good job with weight training and it is so essential for someone his size to be strong. He is 6-8 but can't do anything in the post. He wants to play outside but his handle is average at best and therefore cannot create his own shot. When he does get wide open looks, he is not consistent with his shot and has not had success. In high school he was always better and bigger than everyone else. It is alarming that he hasnt figured out he has to put in the extra time to be great at the next level. I don't think the switch will ever go "on" for DD.

He's obviously been struggling w/ injuries and the mental aspect as of late.
Teams know to get him off his game early = affects him the whole game.

DD should get back to the mid-range jumpers. That's where he's most effective.
This standing around on the perimeter waiting for something to happen isn't working.

That's the thing, if he gets back to that facet of his game I think it will help him and the team.

I dunno I blame the crowd. When in doubt blame the crowd, I always say.

We're not cheering hard enough

one BIG toughness pill
he plays hesitant on offense, plays weak on defense and shows no sense of urgency in his game.
He didn't get that from Durant at his camp over the summer- he must have fooled them there or else just doesn't care in Storrs
He is too laid back to be any type of elite player or leader.
He, right now, I hate to say it because I had such high hopes for him, is a marginal D1 player. Not saying he doesn't have the physical tools to be a really good D1 player but part of the arsenal is heart, desire, competetiveness and toughness - he hasn't shown that at all this year.
The Gtown game last year, hopefully not, appears to have been his one shining star where he looked invincible.
Would love to see him do that 75% of the time but really don't know if thats the real DD.

While I'm not a fan of how DD has played recently, I absolutely disagree that he a marginal D1 player. He's not playing to his potential and that is because of a few factors, one of which I believe is the presence of Boatright and Napier. I'm not knocking them, but DD is suffering in some aspects, i.e. scoring, by playing with them and unfortunately, if he's not scoring, he's checked out of the game.

Average players have great games too. He's not in a slump, this is the DeAndre we should come to expect. Disappears during big games and against good competition, and gets like 10-15ppg. He has the length to play good D, but he doesn't play good D.

Someone pointed out before, we play better as a team with him not in the lineup and I think that is true.

I agree he is wildly inconsistent, doesn't mean he can't improve . You have to think the ankles bothering every facet of his game.

as I said, right now he is a marginal player and playing like one. a good player can find ways to contribute rather than disappear. to say the two guards are a problem for him is wrong.

Do people forget he sprained his ankle pretty bad and also had back spasms earlier this month?!
Injuries can really take a toll. Not only has he probably not been 100% health-wise since returning, but he has to get back into the rhythm of the offense.
He needs to be more assertive and consistent but you can't forget about these things, they happen.

I'm not sure. Georgetown was vastly overrated (lost to Florida Gulf Coast 1st round). Daniels had 2-3 good games at the end of last year when everyone was injured. This year he really only can produce against scrap teams, and the one game vs Memphis.

I don't see him other than a 10-15ppg / 4-7rpg guy. He is by no means a game changer, which is what most want him to be.

It's between the ears and, unfortunately, I don't think it's the sort of thing you can change. He's just not assertive or aggressive. He shies away from contact. That's just who he is.
