@CoachingChanges: Hearing Kelvin Sampson to Houston w his son to be named coach in waiting and also hiring Bilal Batley. Interesting hires

^ not confirmed, but solid rumor...Bilal Batley was a "Cal guy"

They'll definitely start recruiting better and using every dirty trick in the book. My guess is a five-year run in which they're competitive, followed by program-crippling sanctions.

Temple, Tulsa, Houston and USF (just because Collins is coming back, I think they made a dismal hire for HC) all have a chance to be top 15o RPI opponents next year!

How sad is it that I am excited to say that?? Thanks AAC!

Tulsa has offered Manning 1 million a year with pay bumps for asst coaches...Manning is at Wake now touring the campus...decision to come in 24 hours.

I think the USF and Houston hirings are definite helpers to AAC status in the college landscape. I am not convinced Sampson is that bad. Especially when much had to do with text messages… we better not get all holier then thou on that point.

Also Ortega to USF (I hated him when he played in the Big East) is a phenomenal recruiter and will elevate that program…

Losing Manning will be tough but it will happen. Temple needs young blood to take over that group… he is to boring for a school like Temple that needs to worry about a further diminished image.

I looked at the standings late in February & thought: Both USF & Houston can leap dramatically up with a coaching change. They can get athletes (Houston had 4-6 superb athletes - with size - this year). Lo & behold - both are in the market for that new coach. In a way of thinking, both Antigua & Sampson are upgrades and blue sky possibilities for those schools. NELSON ... these Programs do care about Basketball & getting better through the AD. Tulsa? Upping salary to a cool $1m?

I hope both are more competitive. I hope the RPI average improves dramatically. Who knows ... we can actually drag another league up to our level. I do believe We are the reason Pitt got better in the mid to late 1990s.

I guess they missed out on hiring Pat Summit, Jr.

Sampson will make Houston into a top 75 program quickly. There is too much local talent to be this bad.

Temple will never be this bad again. Completely underwhelmed by USF's hire, and Tulsa may be better off if Manning leaves.

What Sampson did, which makes him scummier than anyone else in some peoples mind, is not even against NCAA rules any longer. He is a great coach and will get them in the top 25 within 3 years.

As for his son being the coach in waiting, that was probably the carrot that got him to commit. Kellen is not even 30 so there is no rush on pushing Kelvin out the door.

Not trying to be a forum nerd - but during a FF week in particular could you put an OT in front of the topic. We are interested- just not as interested as we are about the upcoming games. Thanks!

For normal people, 58 is too far off from retirement. Especially if you have the kind of money he does.
