Texas has dozens of HS FB stadiums that can handle the crowds. They will not be short of places to play.

There's probably gonna be tons of relocations/postponements/cancellations in the Houston area. (UH's first home game is scheduled for Sept 16th.) Hard to say now what kind of shape the city will be in by then - the flooding from this storm is off the charts. Hoping everyone gets to safety and damage is minimal.

Nashville, Orlando join New Orleans as potential sites for LSU-BYU relocation

LSU could be heading to an SEC bowl site four months before the holidays.

Nashville and Orlando have joined New Orleans as potential playing spots for the Tigers’ season opener against BYU. Bowl-affiliated officials from those stadiums confirmed with The Advocate that LSU-BYU game officials have reached out.

Jacksonville is expected to also be in the mix, though officials there have not returned a message for comment.

Game officials have yet to determine a location for the matchup, originally scheduled for Saturday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium. The city’s historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey has forced the relocation of the game.

The New Orleans Superdome is available, and dome officials say they’re prepared to host, but the city might see weather trouble, too. Harvey, now downgraded to a tropical storm, is predicted to slowly move northeast, potentially causing heavy rain in New Orleans, an area that experienced massive flooding earlier this month.

The other locations are out of harm’s way, and they’re all spots the Tigers might find themselves come late December or early January – each of them a longtime member of the SEC’s group of bowl tie-ins.

They didn't bother to show down under. Nothing like getting waxed a zillion miles from home and coming home to that.

Clearly, more skilled and faster #14 ranked Stanford played no role in defeating Rice. As bad as the score was, the Owls still appeared to compete hard until the final down. Facing bigger challenges, I'll root for Rice to rally against more similarly-skilled opponents the rest of the season.

Hurricane Harvey forces schedule changes

The Sam Houston season opening football game with Richmond, scheduled for Sunday night at Bowers Stadium, has been postponed with Hurricane Harvey approaching the Texas coast.

Officials with both Sam Houston and Richmond are in discussions about finding an appropriate date to play the game. That announcement will come at a later time.

“These storms can be difficult to predict and we want to have as much information as possible to make a decision,” said Director of Athletics Bobby Williams. “I want to thank everyone involved in this process as this is not an easy decision to make with all of the factors involved.

“Ultimately we need to do what was best for both team’s players and our fans who are travelling to the game,” he said.

The No. 3 Bearkats and the 7th-ranked Spiders were scheduled to open the season in front of a national television audience on ESPNU. Television and streaming options are still being discussed and will be released when there is a set plan for coverage.

Football vs. BYU Moved to Superdome; Ticket Info

ESPN today announced the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff between LSU and BYU will be relocated to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans from its original location at NRG Stadium in Houston. The game will be played at 8:30 CDT and televised live on ESPN.

"Efforts are underway in New Orleans and we will work with the fans, the Superdome, the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau and both schools throughout the week to ensure the most optimal game day experience for all," said Pete Derzis, ESPN senior vice president of college sports programming and events.

The AdvoCare Texas Kickoff was relocated due the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey to Houston and the surrounding areas.

"ESPN had to make a difficult decision and we are well aware of the awful circumstance that led to this move," said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. "Every storm is different, but we in Louisiana understand a little about what all of those in Harvey’s path are going through right now. It’s heartbreaking and our prayers go out to all who are impacted."

Alleva said all parties involved worked closely to find a solution.

"During the last few days, we were overwhelmed with the outreach by the communities offering to host this event, specifically, Dallas, Jacksonville, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando and San Antonio," said Derzis. "We have great partners within those cities through the Football Bowl Association and we appreciate their energy in finding a solution."

"I want to thank my staff here, ESPN, NRG officials and BYU for the professionalism with which this was all conducted," said Alleva.

Alleva said LSU Athletics is working with LSU University officials to identify practical ways they can contribute to the recovery efforts in Texas and Louisiana in the very near future.
