Listen, I'm as guilty as anyone by not being there because or work but that Husky Walk was pathetic!! We need to figure something out quick to start to Change the momemtum.
The University seems to really see the value the students bring and has gone out of their way to aknowledge them which is WAY overdue. Here's my idea.. We need to get a few busses of students there early to line the walk, this is how we do it. Launch 4 busses early so that they are there in time, should be around 40/50 a bus so that should get us off to a good start. So the students get there cheer on the team and hopefully this drags more fans over which it should. Fans go back to their tailgates so now what do the students do until the game starts? Easy, have a sponsor like PC Richards sponsor/help put together a "Husky Walk Champions Tent" for the students to hang out in. Bring in some demo flat screens which their vendors can EASILY donate free of charge along with some PS4's etc.... Throw in some couches and food to make it the place to be, and now we're talking the language students can relate to... Free stuff! Throw in a different "Husky Walk Champion Tshirt" for each game and you can go from there. If you told me as a student that we're gonna get you there early, feed you and let you chill in a tent until gametime for free, and all I gotta do is go cheer on the team which I prob would do anyway.... No brainier!

What that highlight reel reminded me of is the fact that we have playmakers on offense. We really do. Both RBs, Thomas, even the TEs are pretty good. It's hard to understand why the offense looked so damned mediocre with those guys on the field. And I don't think that it was the OLine either, although they clearly didn't shine. Whenever you feel you have talent but can't identify the problem, it normally suggests an issue with the playcalling...

I watched the game again this morning and didn't feel as disheartened as I was when I left the stadium. We absolutely have playmakers. I too, at second glance, felt the O-Line wasn't as bad as I thought. Often times in the run game Newsome, specifically, was one block away from getting to the second level on a number of occasions. Meyers and Thomas whiffed on blocks a number of times, allowing defenders to cross their face to fill the hole. Mayala, on the other hand, was outstanding at WRs as a run blocker. Davis was outstanding in both the run and pass game.

The play calling is way too predictable, at times, when you look at personnel and formations. But, BS has to run the offense, rather then run the offense. They need to utilize some roll-outs off of run action to hold the LBs and the secondary, setting the pocket outside the tackles. I'd also like to see Newsome and Johson on the field together more often. Make the defense account for both as runners and receivers. Newsome is vastly underutilized in the offense, IMO. He should on the field 85-90% of the snaps, in multiple positions in the formations.

I definitely agree about Newsome. That kid can flat out play. Get him the ball in space and reap the rewards...

The only thing that bothers me about Newsome is that he seems to search for contact instead of using his quickness to avoid the defenders. So many times the other night, if he had made an extra cut/bounced it to the outside, he would have gain more yards than he actually did.

He needs to learn that at 5'1" 105 lbs, he's not going to run over anyone

Kris's assertion about play action roll outs is spot on. Takes advantage of BS's mobility plus lets him set up in a more comfortable place.

That's the thing I like about Newsome, he doesn't shy away from contact. I agree there are times when he should look to bounce it. However, its better to get a 2-yard gain, rather then a6-yard loss trying to bounce it. RBs have to be patient, allowing the seam to develop. If it's not there, protect the ball, get what the defense gives you. I think that's part of the philosophy of this offense and a big reason why he became the starter. I agree he's probably not built for that on every snap but I think that's what the staff wants the RBs to do. Stay in the hole, allow the play to develop, bounce it at the second level.

I agree with what you're saying absolutely, what I was saying is re-watching the game a couple times in 5-sec increments, there are obvious holes there for him to run through....but he chose to lower his shoulder and try to grind out 2-3 yards instead of making the cut and hitting the hole

Nothing against a back who knows he is going to get tackled and lowers the shoulder to hurt the S or CB to get a couple extra yards

I wonder how much of that is about the offensive philosophy right now; get 3 yards regardless, instead of taking risks at a +10 yard run that could also turn into no gain. I'd rather have the latter, showing patience behind the OLine. It will eventually help them too...

Absolutely true, let's hope they try to get him in space more like that jet sweep they tried or that weird flip/Bat pass the WVU used a lot with Geno Smith and Tavon Austin

I basically agreed except he ran over a couple of guys on Thursday. He seems very strong and broke tackles on a couple of runs.
