On Sunday and Monday there will be some great high school basketball on ESPN, ESPNU and ESPN3. I don't follow high school ball as much as most of you on the 'Yard, but ever since a good buddy of mine and former co-worker started working at Montverde Academy, I've been a little bit more on the tempo of the top teams.

Here's the schedule for Sunday and Monday including a list of each team's top prospects and where they've committed.

Sunday, January 17 – 1:30 PM: Bishop Walsh (Md.) vs. #9 Legacy Early College (S.C.) – ESPN 3
Sunday, January 17 – 3:30 PM: #13 Oak Hill (Va.) vs. #10 La Lumiere (Ind.) – ESPN 3
Sunday, January 17 – 5:30 PM: #3 Sunrise Christian (Kan.) vs. #15 AZ Compass (Ariz.) – ESPN 3
Sunday, January 17 – 7:30 PM: #2 IMG Academy (Fla.) vs. #1 Montverde Academy (Fla.) – ESPN

Monday, January 18 – 11 AM: #9 Legacy Early College (S.C.) vs. #10 La Lumiere (Ind.) – ESPN U
Monday, January 18 – 1 PM: School of Lewisville (Tex.) vs. #13 Oak Hill (Va.) – ESPN U
Monday, January 18 – 3 PM: #2 IMG Academy (Fla.) vs. #3 Sunrise Christian (Kan.) – ESPN U

Justice and Montverde play tonight. He’s definitely feeling the difference between playing in the Philadelphia Catholic League and a Montverde schedule, but he’s hanging in there and will be better for it in the end. There’s just something about these Team Final guys that I like...

Jalen Duran is a load and Caleb Houstan has a nice blend of hops and textbook shot mechanics.

Ryan Nembhard: a calm, savvy and smart point guard. His shot doesn’t scream “Creighton” to me and I don’t see a star but he’s the type of point guard who plays up in crunch time. Seem like a good leader too.

Agreed.

Justice Williams basically doesn't play. I think he has 3 minutes through 3 quarters. Looked uninvolved when he was in.

I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred out of Montverde

Yup... 3 minutes. Waste of a season fornthe kid, I feel bad.

Duran is a beast. He must have had 5 or 6 TOs just with bad passes and handoffs which I didn't love.

I think you’re getting a little ahead of yourself here. Justice has played more in other games and contributed. He’s gotten consistent practice and game time, something he knew he would have to transfer to get. Games hopefully start in Philly by the end of the month, so Rahsool and them will have something, but it’s not much.

The schedules are shortened to as little as 10 games for some of these schools in the Northeast. They are getting nothing out of this season, no name exposure, 1/3 the normal number of games, no national or regional tournaments, a bunch of the top kids have transferred south, not even the normal senior year high school experiences like Prom/normal graduation. If any of our 2021 kids can graduate and join us for the second semester, even just for practice, they should. They’re wasting their time in high school.

Do you have examples of this? Every game recap I could find seemed to suggest Williams was riding the bench. Was pretty disappointed ngl.

Another note from yesterday's game, I was impressed with my first viewing of Jarace Walker. The level of touch combined with his man-child 6'8 230 frame is something else. Strong enough to play the 5 in college, but skilled enough to be a 3/4 in the NBA.

With his motor and intensity, Tamar Bates will be a fan favorite at Texas. He'll be able to contribute in a variety of ways, especially as a switchable defender.

This weekend is usually Hoophall in Springfield, MA. where I get to see tons of guys up close. Somebody has a sense of humor to schedule this tournament in Springfield, VA. Annually I come away pining for us to get involved with a handful of players, and envious of not getting a few others. I only watched portions of most games, but I have to say that none of these ranked players, has wowed me. 2022 6'5 bully guard MJ Rice, (NA) from Oak Hill is a good one. I paid attention to 2022 6'8 Jarace Walker #8 and 2022 6'7 Chisom Okpara (who I bet is 6'5). Both are active and okay, but neither are sure fire stars, and neither would hold a candle to Karaban in the frontcourt. Everybody else I have watched so far is just another good player that may or may not have an impact. With so many ranked players you get a sense of 'relative' rankings. There are no Chet Holmgrens playing, nor Trey Pattersons, Kofi's, Samson Johnsons, or Rahsool Diggins. I like our guys relative to what I have seen so far.

FYI - On Jan 29th and 30th Brewster with Yann Farrell, Dasonte Bowen, and cast, play back to back games against New Hampton, with Alex Karaban and other good players. There is a streaming link on Brewster's website that I hope will work. These are first games of the year so these good players may not be shiny polished. I have never seen Farrell or Bowen. At 6'7 in the top 100 and in New England, Farrell is the right size player we need if he's got the right skills. (Q: Any Nate Santos updates? He's properly dropped to the 200's but can shoot if he would improve on other parts of his game)

The names are just incredible, Gradey Dick and Willie Lightfood. Dick is a great player but our fanbase would lose their minds with the name.
